What to check for when buying LT1 car?
I just got back from looking at a 93 Z28 M6 (http://www.autotrader.com/findacar/v...or=&cardist=32) . It's only 4900 and I rarely find an M6 so I think its kind of a deal. Its got 120k. NO T-TOPS
. Cloth, power everything, 115 speedo (was 150 an option?). only problems i have with it are no t's, air dam needs paint, paint on hood is starting to "speckle", right quarter has a couple 2-3" long scratchs. I couldnt start it or anything cause im not 18 blah blah blah. i was told though that there isnt anything mechanically wrong with it? any thoughts/input? thanks
EDIT: top speed of an LT1 car is like 160 right?

If you are set on an F-Body, then keep looking.
It's one thing if it doesn't check out with a good mechanic, but quite another if it needs body work or it is not exactly what you want.
There is one out there just for you. Be patient or be sorry.JMHO

It took me almost 3 months to find mine. I also wanted a M6, black, T-tops, low miles, etc.
I looked at nearly 7 or 8 before I found mine. It only has 49,000 on it and it is just what I wanted.
I drove many with high miles that were listed as "mint" only to find that they had been abused badly.
Also, look under the hood & under the car for poor maintenance (broken clamps, missing bolts, leaks, cheap mods, etc).
Lastly, spend the $14 and do a carfax, it is worth the piece of mind.
Good luck and don't settle

If its a '93 M6 with that speedo then it has the good tranny in it. (or at least the one that all the drag racers want because of the low 1st gear.) If you plan on modding the car and racing it I say go for it.
