What cfm would you need, to make 450-500hp NA 396 Stoker!

I have a solid roller 396 stroker, with AFR 210cc heads straight out of the box. Car made 420hp @ the rear wheels, thinking of sending my AFR off to have additional porting done to them. What cfm would you need @ .600 & .700 lift, to accomplish 450-500 hp with a 396 solid roller setup?

What porting did the AFR's have? Competition? It looks as though my 383 will land on way over 400rwhp with a hydralic roller cam. My heads flowed 298 at .600

Yes, they are competition ported. Do you know anyone that has flowed AFR 210 comp heads, straight out of the box? Just curious what numbers they make, and what numbers do I need to shoot for.

it wont be so much the cfm @ .600 or .700 lift that makes the power for you its the mid lift numbers. but i really assume your heads flow really close to 96z's just from what afr states in their literature for a 210cc race head. says 293 @ .650 while you're about 10 cfm off from 96z's number @ .600 the other difference could be in the rest of the combo. bret did 96z's engine and his work is top notch and he does a lot of research before he starts to do anything. the solid roller is probably making your computer go all fubar. the knock sensors dont like those at all so i'd look into if you had any timing retard from that. if you could post a dyno graph that would be a good start too to see if you had any break up at high rpms. post cam specs too that'll also help. but my best suggestion would be to try this out in advanced tech then you'll get more of the mad scientist types taking a look at it.

The knock sensor has been deleted because of the Solid roller camshaft, the cam I a running is 242in. 254ex. 609in. 622ex. 113 lobe seperation.

CFM isn't everything, but you do have to look at more than peak numbers. How well the ports flow for their size is even more important.
A head with good mid-lift flow and 310-320 cfm peak should get you there if everything is optimal tuning wise.

I know that AFR seems to make a very nice set of castings, but I believe that the heads can be opened up some more. I think where Iam running a solid roller 396 that I need a great set of flowing heads. Thinking of sending them to GTP, Craig seems to know whats up.

Hmm, I'd go with Clements Porting Service, Self Racing Heads or McKenzie Racing Heads before going GTP but that's just me. Never hear much of GTP outside the LT/LS community.

If you've got the money there are guys who I call class "A" porters but they aint cheap.

what about TEA, they do top notch work for a cnc port. their mid lift numbers seem to be very nice. or you might try phil from AI he always does really good work on stock castings, never heard of him doing any afr's but i'd like to see what he could get out of them.
