I dont mean to sound rude but you are crazy. If in fact you did spin a rod bearing you will never get it to hold together a week by checking it and throwing another set of bearings in it. No matter how little you drove it. The engine was turning atleast 1000 Revolutions per minute with one bearing stacked on top of another and the rod with no bearing in it hitting the crank the rod needs to be recond and so does the crank along with the exact bearings to go with whatever they do to the crank plus an oil pump and a good cleaning of the oiling system. Minimum.

sorry to say it but you need to do a rebuild. but first check everything. I just got done doing this and all together it was probably about a $1000 thats without extra goodies but covers mostly everything for a stock rebuild. If you going to do it, do it right. First, figure out if you want to bore the block or keep it the same, keeping it the same requires less money. Then you must either have your block/pistons/crank/ machined, by that I mean hottanking, turning, honeing or boreing, which ever you choose to do, but i advise to hottank your parts. After you do all that then your ready to rebuild.

yes we are going to check the crank and all. before we order the bearings, we are going to have the cranked check in order to know which ones we will need. we will do the whole 9 yards accordingly to what we find. I dont think I need a new cam and all of that though, the car doesnt have a miss to it at all. just the noise.

The crank is going to get turned if there is any damage to it. We will know once we get into it.

My 97SS spun something with less 7000 on the clock. About a year after small cam and a couple months after heads. Don't know why and never will know why.

Short block was recommended by mech. so I bought new 4-bolt short block and had the heads, cam, etc transferred (after having the cam checked and polished.

Have around 9 grand on the clock and a couple of grand on the new engine.

Frankly a bit gun shy after this, but hopefullly the new short block (and having the heads and cam installed before reinstalling ing the bay "might" reduce the chances of it happening again. I hope.

Bottom line: if you can find a new 4-bolt or 2-bolt short block you might feel a bit more confident in the integrity of the bottom end. JMHO fon lmore. k

last time it happened to me the cam lobes were chewed up alot but i think it was because the guy who installed my valvetrain, had the rockers way to tight. so then i had the bearings replaced when that happened and a new cam and all... hopefully it will be a quick fix for us this time
