Sometimes when I'm driving my car I can't get any kr at all, no matter what (I know this is a good thing), but other times, whenever I touch the gas pedal I get anywhere from 8-12 degrees of KR. Is my knock sensor going bad? I have an LT4 KM, and no major exhaust leaks....

 

everytime i get false KR its always from the exhaust hitting the frame somewhere, fix that and it goes away. last time i got tired of fixing it so i just de sensitized the KS

 

My exhaust isn't hitting anywhere, its something in the pcm or something, or mabey the KR is going bad. What are the signs of a bad knock sensor.

 

bad gas?

bad tune?

 

It's not the gas, sometimes its fine on the same tank, othertimes i get a ****load of false KR. And I don't think anything is wronge with the tune if it only does it sometimes....

 

LT4 KM will only tune out what it is programed to. If ya got RR's or exhaust noise the LT4 KM don't help.
Any noise it isn't tuned for will cause retard.
Do the resistor and be done with it or have it removed from your computer.

 

If it is repeatable under the same exact conditions, it may not be false at all.

 

Why would the LT4 knock module not help with "RR's"? That's specifically what its tuned to filter out.... the noise from the Crane Gold 1.6 RR's used on the LT4 engine.

 

The Cranes I don't know about but the Comp,Crower,and 1 set of T&D's that I have used with the factory computer will trigger retard and it seems that header's trigger it also.Every car I have put header's on long or short has KR when it didn't have before. Doesn't seem to matter on the type of exhaust. That's with nothing hitting and no leaks.
Hell I had one customer that had installed one of those boom boom stereo's and said it didn't run right anymore,come to find out without the sound's on it was fine but when ya started rattling the license plate with it a bunch of KR would appear.Sooooo I just automatically install the resistor and tell them not to get gas at an all night Conoco station.

Trust me, there's no way im gettin 12-13 degrees of kr at 1/4 pedal, then the next day on the same exact tank of gas in the same weather conditions, I wont even see .1 degrees of KR. What are the signs of a bad knock sensor?

 

Are you using the AC while you get this knock? If so it could be a bad bearing for the AC. I seem to get a constent 2 degrees knock from idle to about 1800 rpm when the AC is on.

 

Did the LT4 come from the factory with Crane gold rockers?
I've never seen a completely stock one.

 

I get knock retard with the ac on or off. And today on the way to school I wasn't getting any kr at all, then all the sudden I start getting a couple degrees cruising and up to 13.0 degrees whenever i touched the gas pedal. And I don't hear any detonation at all.
