What cam will give the most power at low RPM's? (2000-3000) 93 Z A4

XE 224/230?

Hotcam?

CC305?

Any others? I want a streetable cam for my daily driver. I have the mods listed in my sig... I did a search but wasn't too lucky on finding anything about cam powerbands.

Thanks guys

i dunno about in the 2-3k range but, i've said this before a few times but the zz3 cam 208/221 should be the top performer with stock heads. it makes stupid tq all across its rev range and will idle like a baby (ie your grandma would probably be ok with it). in simulations it kinda destroys everything else thats me and others have tried. however its not a bolt in you need the end turned down and a longer dowel depending on the year of your car.

I made 325 RWTQ @ 2500, which is where my dyno run started. About like a 306.

Custom cam, the 306 is an ooooooooold design, this is like an improved version in the same neighborhood. I can email you the website if interested, but its definately not a 305 or in that territory.

Let me take a wild guess, its a 230/238 cam, right?

I made 352rwtq at 2500rpm with a TPIS ZZ-409 cam and 327rwhp at 5500rpm. It has alot of bottom end, specs are 226/226, .520 lift.

Of the 3 cams you orriginally asked about I'd say the 224/230 would make the most low end power. The XE grinds are known for that.

Nope, but I know a couple guys in CA that are running it, one made less peak TQ than I did but I don't recall what he made on the low end, I unfortunately dont have the link to his dyno sheet handy either.

For a smaller, fun cam, I looked at a bunch of stuff, 222/230, 225/236, there are lots of choices out there in the mid range.

Your going to see more differences in the 1000-2000 RPM range than 2000-3000 IMO, so long as the timing is up to snuff that is.

So this ZZ3 cam can be purchased through a gm parts dealer such as gmpartsdirect, etc?

How does the ZZ3 compare to the XE 224/230 as far as low end power?

ZZ vs. LT

So what would be a better choice?
ZZ4 cam or a stock LT4 cam? (not HOT).
I was thinking of trying to get a used LT4 cam, I'm sure they can be had pretty cheap.
.......... yes I know others are probably better but it would make a good sleeper (cheater cam?)

well yeah the 304 would make tq down low but the zz3 is only down on hp from the hot cam like 10 at the peak from my messurements. the zz3 will also do better than the lt4 stock cam as far as i can tell. it has that huge bias towards exhaust which complements the lt1 heads ****ty exhaust flow pretty good. plus the peak tq is also relatively low and if you have an auto car with a stall it should hit damn hard if you get something like a 2800 or 3k stall.

the xe 224/230 aint a bad cam if you want a bigger one really. it comes within a 10th and a mph of the zz3 on a stock head car.

the zz3 seems a really good match for DCR. on a stock engine and probably will idle like a non car guy cam.

theres one that hasnt been mentioned here the crane 210/224. theres a guy on the board with a 3400lb car with a vig 3200 in it i'm pretty sure, a set of hooker lt's and a 12 bolt rear. he runs 11.5 or so in the 1/4 at like 116mph. so theres the proof that a stock head car with a "weenie" cam can lay down some badass numbers. just something to think about.

i'm gettin the zz3 with 1.6 rockers and probably the combo motorsports springs that just came out when i get money and time to install it. remember tho it has to be turned down. theres a page on comp cams web page in the catalog that tells what the difference is and why it needs turned down. i'm getting this cam because i am staying stock heads till it blows. and i like the idea of a sleeper cam.

theres also the lpe 211/219 (gees this is getting to be me naming all of the "baby cams"). this is also probably a good choice except expensive as hell. $300+ for just the cam(damn john thinks a lot of his products) imho the zz3 cant be beat in performace for the price and if you dont want to use the combo motorsports springs. the comp 941's should probably work
