What cam do I want??

I want a cam to have fun with until I build a motor and then i will go with the LE2 set up. But for now I want something that will give me good power, that thumps, and won't over rap my stock motor. Any ideas? The LT4 hot cam is too small. I don't like the way it sounds. Any video clips of people's cam's would be awesome.

Thanks,

If I get my other HD hooked up soon I can send you a file of the LE1 or LE2 cams. The LE1 will idle rougher than the HotCam and still keep the RPM down.

I contacted Lloyd and he won't sell just the cam. Otherwise it would be no contest to which cam I bought. Does anyone have a video clip of the cc503??

Thanks,

Yep, I just bought an LE2 cam through the classifieds. It might make more sense to just get the cam you really want instead of buying something else just to tide you over and end up replacing in the near future anyhow.

No way to tell unless you've had the car the entire 80k miles and you know how it's been treated. I don't think the tolerances are very tight from the factory either. I'd say go ahead and check your bearings when it's apart. If they look good then install it and see what happens. If something breaks or they look pretty worn, build yourself a new bottom end with an extra block for when it goes.

Its always a hit or miss... some people install LE2 packages on stock shortblocks and don't have any problems whatsoever. Others install a more tame cam such as the Hotcam or CC305 and they spin a bearing. As mentioned above, some of it is going to depend on how the engine was maintained over those 80K miles. It is also going to depend on how clean of an install you do, if you get sloppy, then you're asking for trouble.

Do you lose some of the bottom end feel of the LT1 if you use a CC503?

Not nearly as much as if you go bigger. I think that's a good all-around cam. I think all the comp cams have 4 degrees of advance ground in as well in order to keep the low-end torque.
