What is this cam.....

Here are the specs 236/242 dur, 585/576 lift, 112 lsa. I just pulled the cam specs on the longblock i am looking at and I want to know how to determine how this or any cam would act in an LT1. I have never been able to understand the numbers and relate them.

BTW--It's a 396 LT4 stroker

Re: What is this cam.....

seems like a combo motorsports grind.

TN-236XL 236/242 duration, .555"/.576", 112lsa

Has a different intake lift though. That cam would be a monster. Excellent choice I think. I would love to hear that thing

Re: What is this cam.....

Its a high end cam, you'll make alot of power from mid to high rpm. Good choice by the way

How can you determine it's a monster? I just don't understand how to transfer the numbers to how it would act in the engine. And it's a comp cams setup used in the golen engines 396 LT4/520 package.

Re: What is this cam.....

The first numbers are the duration for the intake and exhaust (degrees of rotation that the valve is open) the next 2 numbers are the lift of intake and exhaust valves (the height they open in inches) Long duration+big lift=lots of air flow. And as i'm sure you know, good airflow usually equals lots of HP. But your cam does of course need to be matched with the flow capabilities of your heads to achieve the best hp gains. A .600 lift is at the beginning of what most girly-men call "not streetable" IMO.

Re: What is this cam.....

I say F STREETABLE!!! I need more power!! The heads in question are matched to it. The whole package is supposed to put out 520 at the crank plus I am going to get my intake ported.

Re: What is this cam.....

Last question: how do you determine where the powerband is?
