I tried to resize the pics but I could not for some reason.


I was backing out of a driveway and turning slightly. All of a sudden the whole car popped and shifted like I hit something. I thought I had hit a telephone pole or firehydrant (not my driveway ). I got out and looked and there was nothing behind me. Got back in the car and tried to go again. When I backed up this time I tried to turn the wheels and the rag joint was LOCKED up against my headers (Jet-Hot longtube). The wheel would not turn over an inch or two. Well I ended up bending the rag joint "ears" so it would clear the headers and drove it on home. Today I got under the car to see what was going on and noticed my headers are bent BAD. I don't know what happened, both motor mounts look good and the K member is nto broke anywhere I can see. Here are some pics to help visualize.........any help would be appreciated.













That's what Jet-Hots look like after 2 years and ~15,000 miles BTW.

 

Where are they bent? If it was towards the manifolds...could be because steering knuckle jammed and hit it...if its underneath, possible the engine shifted and pinched it in there. or...maybe you just bottomed out? (I think you would know that though...)

 

I KNOW I didn't bottom out. I was going MAYBE 3 MPH in reverse when something popped

 

The K-member hit and bent the headers it looks like to me.

that looks like a spot where the a-frame mounts? looks like the poping was from that as it slid back and pined the header... I would be checking all the bolts on that thing. if you were turning your wheel maight have hit the stop and pushed the part back.. causing it to bend the pipe right there.

 

Just figured it out, hit something while backing up. Look at these pics..........






I may chop the collectors off and make them slip fit. Or I may buy some pacesetters. NOMORE collectors either way! Advice for those looking for headers.......get slip fit!

what could you have hit that you would not have noticed that would cause that? or rather. what is your ground clearance??

 

I never said ground clearance was good. The driveway must have had a big dip in it and I caught the concrete.

 

lol.. that is possible.. even with my one car that has stock suspension and such I have bottomed out abcking out of my friends driveway.. although his has a crazy slant to it .

 

I hope you're gonna weld and not clamp if you with slip-fit collectors...

 

If ya can get the headers and "Y" pipe to almost butt up after cutting the flange,ya can go to a 18 wheeler shop and get the 4" wide stainless band clamps and put it back together.

 

Hahah O god ... I did that once, but didnt hurt anything. I on the other hand had it over adip and just got two tail pipes full of dirt/grass that BLASTED out when I revved it up lol. It probably shot dirt about 25 feet down the road with a little 2K rev.

Good luck getting it together. After 2 years and 5-6000 miles, my pacesetters are flaking much worse than your Jet Hots.

Dont get me wrong, I love them. The coating just isnt the best I have seen

They look nice from under the hood, but I had it on the rack today at work and the collectors are flaking pretty good. I never chipped them to start it. And I dont drive it in the rain so splashing cold water on hot pipes definatly didnt cause it. They are great headers though.

 

I like collectors.. personally

 

Javier, not to hijack the thread, but how are things going? I saw you spun a lifter and chewed up the cam etc.

Whats goin on now?
