What is the best way to manually turn the crank?

I don't like to do it that way because I like my engine bay clean............and that way causes oil to shoot out. Maybe I do it while the oil is to cold and pressure is to high.

I am installing new valve springs as well, so I was planning to rotate the crank incrementally to bring the pistons up to TDC to avoid dropping a valve into the cylinder. I was not set on how I was going to adjust the valves yet.

Another thing that I thought of, I will have to reattach the AIR tubes to the headers if I adjust the valves while running, and thes take them off again to install the valve covers. Not a big deal, but I'd rather not have to do that.
