What is the best way to clean old gaskets off the block?
What is the best way to clean old gaskets off the block?
Razor place, towel with rubbing alcohol or carb cleaner? Let me know going to head up to my friends house to install the heads and intake.

I use the gasket remover spray sold at the local NAPA store. It works great, especially on those hard to reach places like the waterpump-to-block gaskets.

I just use a razor blade, depending on where sometimes a wire wheel. I've used the Napa stuff before, works good, but don't get it on anything important, it melts stuff away.

I used one of these..

and one of these

The first one I listed works great for gasket material that is so on there a razoer blade can't even get under it. Just angle it properly and give it a tap with the hammer and it will chunk it right off.
I have never tried gasket remover. Does it work really well for hard to reach places?

Gasket scraper or putty knife to get the big stuff off, and a wire wheel to really get the cast iron clean. Wipe down with lacquer thinner on a paper towel before putting on the new gasket.
