You can get the exact same thing on Ebay for less than $17.00 shipped.

The snap-on has the more comfy $30 plastic handle which is a rip off.
I got this exact same tool and it worked perfectly to replace my springs in the car.

A lot of compressors work but you asked for the "best"... here is the best.

I have the Snap-on one, only I got mine 5 years ago before the nifty plastic handle was on it. Works great and you can remove double springs as well.

Re: What is the best valve spring compressor for LT1's?

I just purchased the Crane one, and I'm about to change out my valve seals. Needless to say, I'm not real happy. The holes for the rocker studs are 3/8" (same as stock), but I am using 7/16" studs, so it's useless. Unless I take my $100 compressor to a machine shop to have the holes redrilled. Yeah...only option.

I have this one and I like it alot...only have to disassemble it for the back spring which is easily done.

Scroll down for pics on both links. Great price too. I'm getting ready to buy one. You have to specify you want the LT1 style though

Thanks
I used it to install LT4 springs. Actually it's made by KD Tools, p/n 3271. It is also sold by Napa. The handle can be removed so you can put a wrench on it. Easier on the hands that way. It works ok for single springs, don't know about double. But if I had to do it over again I think I would use one like in Loadre's post, that looks like the easiest one to use.

Ditto here. That's the reason I went and bought the Crane compressor.

With the pressures we run you really want the KD/Snapon 3271 over the one with the metal ****. You do 32 springs with the plastic **** and your hands are sore enough to want the wrench option. Yes I said 32 since most of us will be removing the old at the same time.

I gather, based on responses, the primary concern is R & Ring springs on heads on the engine, not installing springs on heads prior to engine assembly.

Correct assumption.

Its a matter of of it being more comfortable or saving money. Thirty bucks will buy enough booze to numb the pain.

You can even weld a friggin nut on the top of the handle of the ebay cheapo and use the wratchet.

I did not find it very hard on the hands at all, now if I was changing springs all the time I would go for the comfy one.
I have seen the Snap-on one and the Ebay cheapo is the exact same thing except for the hex ended shaft and the $30+ plastic handle.

Napa also has a copy of the Snap-on.

Thanx

Looks like it works and it's dirt cheap. Can't get a better tool.
