I did a lot of searches on this topic and found out that the stock system is more than enough even for my motor.

Well, if you're talking distributor, then the opti is it. There is the Dynaspark, which is a much better (read much more expensive) opti, and then there is the LTCC conversion, which still uses the opti.

If you're talking piggyback ignition systems, then I really don't think that you can just tag one as best. They all do the same thing, and many come with the same features. Do some searching for the various systems and you'll see.

From what I've heard the LS1 coil on plug conversion is the way to go, but it'll be around $700 once you get the box with wiring harness, 8 LS1 coils and new LS1 type wires, then you have to make up coil mount brackets...the plus side is that you now have a hotter spark, 8 1' long plug wires=less resistance, and the opti is now just a cap and rotor....think how easy plug wire changes will be....Me? I'm dumb and cheap...I have used an MSD 6A for years on the stock opti with no problems...I did change the cap and rotor in the opti last year (don't do like me...when you go to the trouble, REPLACE THE WHOLE OPTI SPARK DISTRIBUTOR!!!) , but like I said , I'm cheap and dumb...GMHTP had an article on their web page awhile back on the LS1 conversion...I guess the choice comes down to $$$, but if you run big headers the LS1 ignition would probably save money and aggravation when its tune up time....

Cool

the stock ones work for me.I just replace the coil wire every 6 months or so and I'm good to go.(The delco plugs do a death march here though),so I run Tr55's.My02(NGK)

I'm interested in knowing the reasons it makes it better, and how you determined those reasons. Also, in what respect are they the same.

dynaspark

i really like my dynaspark, is was 610 with shipping and they will rebuild it for you for about 38 dollars as long as their seal is not broken. it is a direct boltup.

there is a hi performance version coming to go with the ltcc setup as well. www.dynotech-eng.com is website.

Reason for being "like" easch other.
1. Price
2. Both elimiate the high side ( cap an rotor) of the opit.
3. Both use coil packs

Better.
1. Delteq stage 2 kit Eliminates High and Low side of opti by using a cam trigger ran off the "base" of the opti.
2. Uses 4 factory GM coils that also have Aftermarket replacement options.
3. The ICM is intergrated into the coil bracket and is also a GM peice off of the Nortstar engine.
4.Kit comes with EVERYTHING for mounting and placement of the coils unlike the LTCC.
5. Kit also comes with plug wires ready to go!!

The only thing it does not offer is a PLUG and Play harness for timing controll like the LTCC.

I think I explained myself well.....don't you??

Stock (New) unvented opti
MSD "Blaster" coil
MSD 8.5MM wires
MSD 7AL-2 ignition box
Splitfire plugs

This combo works for me.
