What am I doing wrong?????
What am I doing wrong?????
Maybe someone can help me out...
I have a 1996 Z28 A4 with performance axle ratio, and only 30k miles.
Stock: 14.0 @ 98 mph w/ a 2.0 60' the temp was around 70 degrees.
I installed a Random technology cat-back exhaust, 160 stat, throttle body air foil, SLP air temp sensor, 1LE elbow, and a SS ram air hood and air box.
I ran it on Tuesday and it was 50 degrees:
14.0 @ 98 mph w/ a 2.0 60'
What am I doing wrong???
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks again

What he did wrong was think those mods gave him 60 horsepower
It is slightly possible to run identical times, but maybe off by a splitsecond, I'd say he lost about a 1 and 1 thousanth off his time

Same track: Atco
Same times, actually a little slower
Stock 14.050
Mods 1st run 14.085
2nd run 14.060
I have owned and modified many cars in the past the last being a 1999 Corvette A4, that when I added exhaust and a differnt air box and other small mods dropped .4 tenths and ran 12.81!
So why wouldn't the Camaro do the same???

I don't know how much that air temp sensor is helping....
Did you note your coolant temperatures before each run? Although the air quality was better the second run and your mods should have picked up .1 seconds and a mph. If your original run was with your engine completely cooled off and your modded runs where warmed up from being in the staging lanes too long or back to back with higher coolant temps that could explain why you saw no gain.

94formulabz,
I also have a SLP manual fan switch so I made sure the temp never got too hot. I had a cool down each time of around 45 mins to an hour. The gas levels were the same, my last run I actually had 104 octane gas!! I know with the mods I would not have dropped in to the mid 13's, but 13.9 would be nice. Forget about all the other mods, the ram air hood and exhaust I would have thought would have given me a tenth. I'm stumpped

!looks like you had that under control.
Was the first run earlier this summer, or last year? Did you change anything else like wheels or tires?
I dunno man...
the slp air intake temp sensor is the one that tricks it into thinking it's colder right? like the resistor trick? That might not be helping at WOT, too rich? I would ditch that and go for some real tuning, which IMHO can be beneficial and though not much, a good bang for the buck even on a stock car.
OR
Try some headers and see if they help
Your mods aren't much but it is very dissapointing to see no gain. I slapped a cam in and only picked up 2 tengths, but at least i got my mph up 6! It was at a different slower track, but i was PISSED to be .02 away from the 12s and i didn't pull my sub box, haha.

I think a lot of people will question the value of the SS hood. The path between the air inlet and the TB is "tortuous", and subject to a lot of heat soak.... and for the person that asked, yes the SS hood ducting requires an elbow the same as a non-SS/non-WS6 setup. But there's no gain from the 1LE elbow in either setup.
The SLP IAT gadget is questionable... I can't think why it would accomplish much of anything. Some people who have dyno'd with and without the 4.7Kohm resistor in the IAT have lost HP with it. The airfoil is of questionable value.
I would think that the catback and the TB coolant bypass would add up to 15HP and that should be good for 0.15-seconds and 1.5mph.

I do have the MAF screens taken out, I thought that might be the problem, telling the computer to run richer
Just in my research in the past couple of days I have determined:
Throttle body air foil: useless.
1LE elbow: only good for sound.
Cat back exhaust: good sound maybe 5HP???
SLP air temp sensor maybe good maybe bad ??
SS ram air hood: looks good, but only adds HP over 70mph.
Back to the drawling board

I ran my 97 Z bone stock in Maryland and pulled a 14.2 at 98mph all day long. A year later after a CAI, Flowmaster exhaust, and airtube! I ran a 14.7 in Texas at 99mph. Adding 3.73 gears, KB DDSFC's and a Hypertech netted a 13.8 in Alabama. However, this same combo only gave me a 14.4 at SLP day in Texas the following year.
Anyhow, you get the point. As your car ages, it may lose power due to mileage, needing a tune-up, or who knows what. Mods make the car faster, but environment and tracks can "negate" these gains. A dyno machine is the only real accurate gauge of increases after making changes.
To note other posts, you don't have any real "power adding" mods, save for the CAI. Headers will net a big gain, as will steeper gears (due to torqu multiplication). My gears gave the largest boost... a .5 gain from 2.73 to 3.73 as tested on the same track under similiar conditions.
Don't lose hope. At least you're not driving a Civic and under the illusion your car is fast. Either way, 14.0 is quick
