went to track not happy..need help arching

Went to track not hapy only pulled a 13.5 at 103.. that is only 1/10th. and 3 mph. better than before heads and cam.. still have cam surge, need alittle more tuning.. but I thought it should do better than that.. got home and opened the hood..looked like a christmas tree.. I have a new accel 300+ system. the coil had a steady blue streak running down each side of it, actually horizontal, the back driver plug had a steady ark by the boot, and the other three were lighting up intermittedly, one on the inner body of the car. the pass. side all were lighting up every 5-10 sec. not as much.. any ideas, the plugs are new gapped at .045 the wires are moroso's spiral wire 8.5 only 6 months old the 300+ system is only 1 week old, could it be the motor not grounded good enough, and also the accel plug that plugs into the coil only cover one half of the coil plug, leaving the other side open, is that right? and could this really cut down on my times...guess I found most of my stumbling problems...

I think you already answered your own question, ie, the wires. Cut a new set and throw them on there and giver her another go.

Well,
Don't get too discouraged. At least you found a problem. I'm not a big fan of trim to fit wires. Get those right, and then get a tune. When I did a cam/header mod, I picked up only .1 in the quarter and 2 mph. The new tune gave me .6 and nearly 6 more mph. It was huge. You have alot of go fast parts, and you will be fast with a little perseverance .

what is your shift point in that auto 93. you cant change shift points in the auto without changing the springs/weights. so its shifting at the stock location, and thats with a cc306.

700R4. He should be shifting at 6800ish to get good times out of it, besides figuring out the other issues. Either manually or through governer adjustment.

Re: went to track not happy..

I am manually shifting it at 6,000 rpm's..scared to take it too much higher on stock bottom end...what would be a safe rpm to take it to?
and also found out that my tune is alittle off. did a search on cam surging and pulled up some good stuff. the cam is causing overlapping of the valves, I think I got that right, and it is freaking out the 02's at idle, it is showing a false lean which in turn is dumping more fuel, I am really running pig rich at idle.. can smell the raw fuel. last night I opened up the hood and saw a light show. so today I replaced the wires, new coil wire, and found out the coil wasn't grounded to the frame, I put on a new 4 guage ground to it and the frame, that took out about 50% of the stumbling/surging. still have alittle surge, once I get the tune straightened out, and my rr's adj. they need adj. pretty good, I should do much better...

If your too scared to rev over 6K on the stock bottom end, the CC306 is the last cam you should have chosen to. To get any decent gains out of if your gonna have to shift at 6800+.

depends on how many miles your engine has on it, how well it was taken care of, luck, etc. mine is shifting at ~6400 rpms with the 224/230 cam in it. to get optimal power from your cam, you really need to shift it higher then that. if your not going to shift it higher then 6000 rpms..then you'll never run good times even if you get your car running perfect.

Honestly, why don't you get it tuned? Just because it has a old tune for a different setup doesn't mean it will work with the new.

This post FTW.

Seriously.. cc306 and won't shift over 6k? Sorry, wrong cam choice there.

You guys have got to do some research before throwing "what everyone else has in there"... seriously...

Shift the bitch at 6700 rpm until she blows up.. start saving for a shortblock. Or just put a smaller cam back in.. the CC503 sounds ideal for you.
