Re: Went to the Dyno, results are surprising.

I would have assumed they were a bit high by 10 hp or so. But I also don't know your race weight. When I was at 291hp and 320 tq(not sure how accurate the dyno was), I was running 107mph in the 1/4. I now run 111-112 in the 1/4 with a bolt on only LT1.

Regardless, nice numbers!

Hey can you list your entire list of mods? I am trying to hit 110-112 traps in a bolt on car as well. I don't think it will be a problem, but I would still like to see what you have.

Don't bother. Nobody traps 111-112 with a bolt-on only car without doing the heads and cam.

No problem. Moroso CAI, CSI H2O pump, Crane 1.6 gold rrs, 1 3/4" SLP and 3" mandrel exhaust with Flowmaster, polished stock throttle body and stock MAF(inside of course), stock 3.42 gears.

I moved the iat sensor to just above the filter on the CAI. I descreened and polished the inside of the stock maf. I also polished the throttle body. It makes for a smooth transition going into the intake. I blocked off the air silencer tube and filled in the small pocket that once held the donkey shlong I could take a pic if you can't visualize it. I don't have a cat; just a 3" piece of pipe there so flow isn't restricted. The only tuning I did is adjust the fan settings and raise the rev limiter. No knock at the track and shifting high netted the 112 mph. I consistently ran 110-111. Good weather. If I remember correctly, it was around 60 degrees with low humidity. That is all bolt-ons and still using the stock pulleys, maf, and t/b.

Chrism400, if you weren't so pessimistic, maybe you could raise your own mph without touching the long block. If you lived close enough, I'd dare you to find something other than a bolt-on on my car.

Thanks. Do you happen to know the raceweight of your car w/driver? What are you shifting at? I am in the process of getting the rev limiter bumped up to 6200.

Mail-order tunes have shown 10-15rwhp improvements without any other mods so i think those numbers are realistic. I'm guessing my car is at around 280-285rwhp and with a tune would be somewhere in the 290s. Just might have to do it and see.

While that's true, it doesn't guarantee that the results will be all that much better. I have a MADZ28 tune for my setup, but with the tune I am running 12.0 a/f ratio . It might be helping me because I'm not sure what my a/f would be without the tune, but I do know that I'm running rich at WOT with the tune, so it's not optimal. I will most likely send my PCM back to Ion this winter when the car is stored so that I can get the few extra HP out of it. Just goes to show that a mail order tune isn't always optimal, and I'm not sure it's gained me anything yet, but I'm sure it will if I get it corrected.

I do not know the raceweight. When it had the 305/auto/brake drum rear, it weighed 3500 with an almost full tank of gas. I have put on about 25 pounds since then but I don't know what the weight of the car did with all the swapping.

I was shifting at around 6200. My rev limiter was set at 6400.

I run 13.4@104, so I am hoping I make 300 RWHP too.
I have not dynoed it since the LT install but with only a CAI, Mac catback and Ed Wright tune it dynoed 278 310.
It ran 13.8s at 101 then.

Umm, no just me, the car, and all the stereo equipment. 2 subs, 2 amps, changer, and 12 other speakers. The 1/0 power cable doesn't help much.

Re: Went to the Dyno, results are surprising.

I would say the dyno is calibrated to read slightly higher than most. I would say you should be about 280-285rwhp. Now with that being said, I am not trying to say your car isnt making good power, because it is. What i am saying is dynos can be setup to read highor low.

A buddy of mine ran consistent 12.8 @ 109 with his M6 95 Z28 with bolt-ons only. He had minimal mods too. he had SLP headers, y-pipe 2OTL catback, CAI, 3.73's, dr's and shifter. He didnt even have tuning.

Yeah, the more and more I read up on it, there tend to be some of these cars that make excellent power and others that aren't nessesarily dogs, but not as strong as the others. I guess alot has to do with the previous owners these days, since most of our cars are bought used. I know the first 2 owners of my car babied it alot, thats why I bought mine. Ever since I've had it, it's seen mostly easy, care free days, with the occasional track pass or hard freeway run, with all the maintanence done first hand. I'm definately proud of her, thats for sure.
