Question HELP: weird knock/tick

ok... go to pull out and do a lil fish tailing... when i nailed the pedal i heard this god-aweful knock... more like a clanking sensation... well i let off and just ease my way home... so i get home let it cool for like 6 hours... put the stethoscope on it and it seems to be coming from the passenger side... take the valve cover off and all the lifters feel fine... nothing looks broke... springs look good also... fired it up... all the rockers are getting good oil... but this one is pumping the oil out so hard it is a solid stream onto my fender... well i get a piece of cardboard and put up so i dont loose all of my oil... put the stethoscope on it... start it up and the front 4 or 5 rocker areas... at the base of the spot where the rod goes in have the clanking sound. anyhow... it holds good oil pressure, around 40 at idle. and if you ease into the throttle it does not clank... but get a little more agressive and it will start clanking around 1,500-2,000 ... you can rev it up to like 2300 or 2500 and the clanking will almost quit after a second or so.... weird

any ideas on what it could be???

Maybe weak valve springs? Just a guess, but it sounds possible.

Re: weird knock/tick

I Would Try The Push Rods, I Seen The Little ***** On The End Of The Pushrod Break Off And Not Allow Enough Tension On The Rocker/spring, Good Luck Though Those Kinda Problems Are A Bi*** To Figure Out Sometimes.

Re: weird knock/tick

update: i finnaly took the drivers side valve cover off and was adjusting my valve lash on the 1,3,5 rockers... did the first couple... turned 360 was getting ready to do the last and i started feeling over them and my 6, 8 exhaust rockers i could move almost completely off of the valve stem. could my lifters be bad or what? ive heard of some people adjusting them after 100k... but this only has 84k. anyhow its too hot to keep working ill go back and re do all of them. what do yall think about those rockers/lifters

Re: weird knock/tick

ok, i've replaced the lifters, and it is still making the same noise... did a compression test and they all have good compression... it seems like it has a miss if i rev it up to 2k and hold it... could my opti be causing this? has a lack of power. I do not feel like replacing any bearings so can anyone else think of something that would cause the clank/rattle

Re: weird knock/tick

drained my oil, fine metal powder in it... i know on my 91 i could take the y off and pull the oil pan out the back to give me access to my bearings... can you, or have any of you done this on a lt1?
