which way my pistons should face?

which way my pistons should face?

hey guys

im rebuiling an lt1 for my camaro...
i have the short block half done, need to ask one question tho.

i bought some new pistons that have two reliefs instead of 4, which way do i put the reliefs? up or down

i put them in down and i think they go in up, i think this after i looked at the heads go figure.

let me know whats up

Up, towards the center of engine. Seen some ROYALLY messed up motors from this.

i could be wrong but an easy way to tell is the small dot on the top of my pistons all faced forward

yes, should be a notch on the piston, that should face the timing chain (front of the motor). If it has none, (i may be wrong on this one) i THINK the valve reliefs do go up.

Look at the cutaway. The valves would hit the top of the piston first, so the relief would be in the top.

no dot

yeah the dot, i totally agree. no dot here though. sealed power? last ones i had did have a dot... i just stabbed them with the writing so i could read it, guess i was wrong. well at least i only did the passenger side bank so far. thanks for the confirmation. can't wait to port my heads, hope i dont screw up like this on the heads...

Are the valve reliefs the same size? If not then make damn sure the reliefs are in their perspective intake/exhaust places.
