94 camaro, 94 caprice lt1 engine?

As you may, or may not know I spun a bearing, and lookin for a new motor to drop in while I wait for money to rebuild the other motor. I was wondering how I could make sure this was indeed a 350 lt1 and not a 4.3 from a caprice. And should it bolt right up to my car with no problems? I know the difference is iron heads and different cam 260hp or so. This engine is out of the car, so I cannot look into vins or anything, car is gone.

All LT1s have 327 cast into the sides of the block. A baby LT1 has 4.3 cast into it. You should be able to swap it in, using everything from your old engine that the Caprice engine has different.

Ok thats how I was going to check it, but did not know what the 4.3 would say, Thank you. The motor has 50k miles on it, and is about $450 I think this is a pretty good price?

one more question, my old motor has the stock cam in it, will my pcm deal with the cam from the caprice motor?

I don't think the cam would be different enough to worry about it.

They will be a little different, but not significantly so. I don't think it is enough to warrant spending money on a tune, when this engine is just temporary and his newer engine will need a tune when he gets it in.

Who did your tune the first time? If it was Pcmforless your new tune wouldn't be $200 unless there have been MAJOR changes since 3 years ago.

A 93 is not very forgiving in the tuning, a 94+ MAF system is much more forgiving.

Also if you used the b-body injectors there are 2lbs bigger than the ones from a 93 f-body.

People will often blame hardware or software for HUMAN error.

The tune will not be perfect but it will run well enough too not worry about reprogramming till later.

With the engine out of the car look behind the driver side head, you will see 5700 or 4300.

The 4.3L block has 327 on some front surfaces same as a 5.7L block, on the sides where the 5.7L says 327 the 4.3L says 588. The potential for confusion there is a bit too high which is why I recommend looking behind the head.

Long as it is a 5.7l $450 is a good price, enjoy.

450 (for the 4.3 lt1) seems pricey to me. In my area, a motor with heads and intake is usually around 200, and the 4.3 lt1's are plentiful in the junkyards.
