Waterpump shot? (Shoebox?)
Waterpump shot? (Shoebox?)
Well i am getting a loud upnoxious noise at idle and while i am driving but mostly at idle, i thought it was the alternator's bearings shot, so i replaced the alternator still makes the damn noise, the only other things i can think of is the belt which i didnt replace because they didnt have one in stock or the waterpump. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the water pump has a "weep" hole that will leak when the bearings are worn. Unfortunatly it will leak on the optispark so make sure you change it right away if you see antifreeze residue/liquid antifreeze
The waterpump is also driven by the timing chain
Make sure its not a "normal" car sound or valvetrain noice or even an exhuast leak
The water pump can definitely make some noise if the bearings are going, but it is real hard to tell with it mechanically driven. Like Trey said, it usually will begin to leak when the bearings are going out.
Just to rule out anything else, try taking your serpentine belt off and see if you still have the noise.
