Waterpump question?

Does anyone know what the purpose of the smaller hose that comes off the bottom driver's side of the waterpump going down to the bottom driver's side of the radiator tank?

Re: Waterpump question?

I just notice the B and Y body pumps don't have this port. Any idea why?

Re: Waterpump question?

That hose routes to the oil cooler for cars equipped with that feature.

Then why does this picture show it going directly to the tank? It's hose 16 that I'm talking about.

Re: Waterpump question?

Whether a car has the oil cooler or not, the openings on the pump and rad are still there. By-pass hose, no cooler. If cooler, line to cooler from pump, back to rad from cooler.

I see. I didn't realize the oil cooler was external. Mine doesn't have one. I thought the oil cooler was the one in the rad tank. The internal one must be the one for the automatic cars. Mine's a 6 speed, so it's not used. So I could either block it off, or use a B or Y body pump. It'll help to not have another coolant hose running next to the turbo.

Re: Waterpump question?

The oil cooler was sandwiched between the oil filter and the block. It used engine coolant to cool the oil.
