The waterpump debate, electric or stock.....
Electric, there are way more benefits too using electricover stock, like more h.p., better cooling, your stocker is not going to pump 35 g.p.m, you don't have to worry about water seeping out on your over priced Opticrap, when you bleed the air out it only takes you about half the time and when you change your pump out it seems like it would be alot easier than stock. You add all of those to the price of a stockerand it's a great deal. Ya, sure you could go buy an Autozone special for 50.00 but do you really trust those? The good ones cost the same as the CSI. Just watch your temp gauge a little more closely or put a dummy light in your car.
Stock all day long, I hate electronics. Anything mechanical is stronger and better in most cases. Have fun driving highway with a CSI, unless runing 220 is ok. I like the stock pumps. I only replaced one in 40kmi.
I am not sure about the high temps and electric.. my car ran cool all day long with the meziere.. I have a griffen 31x19 aluminum radiator though... since the failure I wrote about before I am just not too sure of the quality control... It just shouldn't fail after three weeks.. that adds up to like 15 hours of use..
i have a CSI.. if i had to do it again id go stock. the electric is nice, my car doesnt get hot or anything and i really have no complaints...YET. eventually it will give out on me and it probably one be on a weekend when im just out cruising around but more likely in heavy traffic where theres no way to get off the road. it did however allow me to run a cloyes timing set which is nice since the only GM chain that works with stock wps is around $200.. mine was $70. just go stock and have 1 less VERY IMPORTANT thing to worry about.
That the stocker will not flow 35gpm is not true. It will flow well over that up towards redline. Over a year ago someone posted an SAE paper that was a discussion of the LT1 cooling system. That's where I figured out at least part of why my Z would warm up smartly during summer driving in stop and go traffic with the AC on. It would also run abnormally warm out on the highway running 80-85 in summer driving. There are a few guys on this board who live in warm climates who say they've experienced no such problem running their electric WPs. For a daily driver it is a by far safer prospect to stick with a stock WP. With the electric, if power gets interrupted or the motor fails, that's it unless you have another one on hand and some coolant. The stock style pump will continue pumping even though it may be leaking from the weep hole.
