Water Wetter????
Re: Water Wetter????
Here's my advice. Keep the 180 Thermostat, buy a fan mod or somethign that will kick your fan on sooner. I bought one from Pep Boys for 21 bucks that will not shut off (even with the car off) until my temp hits 180. And it is settable. Anyways, Water Wetter, i used it on my old car, i noticed a bit of a difference. So hey, try it, if you don't like it like i did, drain it out.
Keep a 180 Therm
Fan Mod
Try the Watter Wetter
Looks like 25 bucks worth of experimenting.

Re: Water Wetter????
lol how bout this.... clip the plugs off the wires going to the fan motors, wire the positive and negative wires from one plug to the other with enough distance to go to each fan, then splice another wire off each of those and run the negative to a ground bolt and the positive to your accessory fuse.... works for me! i love knowing my fans are on 24-7... and you may say that doing that decreases the life of the motor, but hey, a $35 fan motor over my $3500 LT1 motor........... i think i would rather blow my fan motor maybe.... what.... once every 3 years? lol

This is not really a good way to run cooling fans..
Better to ground the 'PCM' to 'fan relay[s]' trigger wire[that will run the fans correctly by triggering the fan relay[s].
Can't resist adding this[no flame intended] all this golden LT1 cooling info from one who posted this thread?:

fact is, my car, with a brand new thermo, and constant running fans, with a good water pump (so my observations tell me) was running constant 280* whether i was at idle or 15 - 2500 RPMs..... your going to tell me that me not knowing how to fix that has anything to do with me knowing where i want my operating temperature? if you ask me.... wanting your car to run at 160* is kinda foolish, even without a thermo and constant fans my car runs at about 175 - 190.... and 160 is the bare minimum my temperature guage will read, as in thats the lowest number on the guage face... so... if my car was running at 160 or lower i would have to start to wonder if my guage was working!
accessory relay, scuse me, it was late, i had a hard day working on it, and i got relays and fuses and switches all in my mind. as per my fan relays being a part of the initial problem.... i meant to say my fuse block running off the ACC fuse...
i like my fans running the way they do... why should they ever stop cooling off my radiator? the money invested in new fan motors is worth my comfort in knowing that if my car is overheating, it has jack sh*t to do with my fans... one thing i dont want on the side of the road, is my car running at 240*+ all because of some dumb frickin problem like a relay or a coolant fan switch.... i like my motors simple, which is why normally i owned oldschools. there is not a whole lot different about the LT1 than a standard 350 SB. The intake is the biggest difference, as well as the ignition. all ran by a computer, and all a bitch to work on. but the way the motor runs is almost identical, cooling, and so forth all work the same way. this motor may be a "reverse flow" system, but aside from needing to bleed the water system there isnt a whole lot different between them. in an oldschool? there are no electric fans, you have a fan clutch, that tightens when it gets hot and kicks the fan up... OR you can buy a flex fan and run a spacer off it and have it run with your revolutions. which is what i prefer, even though it may put a slight drag on the motor, if the car is that powerful, it needs proper cooling, and i can sacrifice 1 or 2 hp for that..... JMHO

Really not trying to bust you, just don't want others to get the idea [in a search etc] that this is the way to run fans..
1] No one said RUN the engine at 160 [it won't] but with a 160 thermostat..
2] My point about the fans is: I dont care if you run them 24/7, just want to mention that hacking the wires and running them direct, isn't the way...
This [or similar method]is:

The fan relays and the thermostat are there for a reason..
Feel free to ignore this if you wish..

Re: Water Wetter????
of course, i know they shouldnt be like that, but i dont mind them being on that long. the whole reason i did this was because i was getting absolutely no juice to my relay block for one of the fans, and for some reason the other fan relay was just bad... so i did what i could to make the car drivable, and it runs great. i also put in my old thermostat, and it works fine, the car is running like it did without one in it, cooler even... so all is good on my end
i may change it back, but for now, i have more pressing business, like a cam
