water pump sprocket gear has no teeth...

i finally got the timing cover off and took a look at what I thought was a timing set problem. It turns out, the water pump sprocket has all the teeth GROUND COMPLETELY OUT and they are all either in the intake manifold next to the hole that goes into the timing cover or at the bottom of the timing set when I took it off. What exactly does this mean and how do I take it out to replace it? I took out the torx screws and now it seems stuck in there...
ALSO the cam's dowel pin is moved towards the center of the cam... and the cam doesnt seem centered in the block... it is on the way out now. I will tell you what I find on this post... please reply w/ whatever might help!

thanks again! any advice appreciated...

Re: water pump sprocket gear has no teeth...

I can get a pic, but can anyone host it? I have no idea how to post pictures, sorry

I can email them to anyone if you can post the pics? thanks

basically I found all the teeth from SOMETHING and finally found out it was from the water pump gear... I am strongly considering the electric water pump now (10rwhp and I need to replace it anyways?)

thanks for the help..

From the sounds of what you are describing. You are going to have to replace a bit more than just the water pump.

Re: water pump sprocket gear has no teeth...

I will replace the cam (gm 847), timing set (LT4 ED), and water pump w/ electric water pump the way it is looking right now... anyone see a problem w/ this (other than the stock bottom end w/ the 847... wont be stock for long as a forged 355 is on the way... saving now)??

what else did you have in mind as for me replacing?

thanks

Re: water pump sprocket gear has no teeth...

ok, just pulled the cam and it looks FINE... I thought at first that the dowel pin was somewhat misshapen but I know realize that that must have been some sort of optical illusion. I am going to drill the one bolt out that broke off in the cam and then get the cam reinstalled (after being checked from a machine shop to be straight and nothing wrong w/ it) so basically is all I need a new water pump sprocket?

thanks again,

Once the torx screws on the retainer plate are removed you can pry it out with something like a claw hammer.

pry it out how? put something behind the torx plate and push it out?

I am scared to mess this up... obviously.

Re: water pump sprocket gear has no teeth...

you could get a wooden dowel behind it and pound it out. just be sure to keep it straight

Re: water pump sprocket gear has no teeth...

real thin wood you think would push it out?
I will try hammering it into the back of the hole in the block but I doubt it will get me anywhere... any other suggestions?

Is this the stock timing set or the ED?
