Water Pump Seal

Is the water pump driveshaft seal a dealer only carried item. I of course tore mine and it's Saturday, dealer parts counters are closed. Anyone have any luck finding one at local parts houses and if so what did you use to find it. So far none of them can cross the AC Delco or GM number.

Thanks.

It's a GM/AC Delco part.

It comes with the Felpro timing gasket set. About 15 dollars though. Most Auto parts store sell this set.

I have a pic of it in my sig.

Are you sure dealer parts counters are closed? My local Chevy dealer's parts counter is open on Saturday.
Next time you try to install that seal, stretch out the center or use something to help it get up over the lip on the shaft.

Follow JbirdSS advice and it should work for you.
I too trashed the first seal I tried to install and used his advice on the second one and it went right in there.
I could only find them at the dealer.

Thanks Jeff. I actually found a parts guy who was willing to actually do some leg work and found the kit. And JBirdSS your method worked like a charm. Thanks all.

BTW. Just for the record. I did get this seal on properly without any tearing, but that has to be the most tedious BS gasket/seal that I've ever seen.

The engineers who come up with this stuff should have to replace every part that they design themselves - before the part is put into production.

This seal is a JOKE!

You can see how I bypassed the seal, 2 1.25" washers and a bolt and nut.

You guys must be talking about the seal pressed into the timing cover eh? My cunundrum is the little o-ring on the shaft, wtf is that for anyhow? Keep dirt out of the splined coupling perhaps?

Kinda wondered about that myself. I remember someone saying something about it "cushioning" the impact of the two male portions of the shaft coupling.

Reading that sounds like a porno film script.

That's what I would think it was for. You should dab a little grease on the shafts/coupling before putting it together.
