Angry water pump and opti pictures inside.....

i got this Z about a month ago. i knew the previous owner and the car is MINT! its only got 17,000 miles on it, but take a look at the pics!!! what does this look like to you guys? does it look like the water pump has leaked?? im not sure exacly what it is. it is dry, but it def. looks like something is dripping!! looks to me like things under the hood are corroded.... in the pic of the drivers side wires you can kind of see what i mean. i really dont want to change the opti and water pump now, the car still runs pretty strong... not 100% but i want to wait till next year when i will do a cam swap. what else should i look for or replace on a car that has been sitting as long as mine?? thanks in advance for the advice!

here are the pics:

(hopefully the quality is clear enough for you to see!)

definitely looks like your wp is leaking. i guess you could wipe the area off and check it again in a couple days just to be sure.

It looks like it has leaked a little at some point. The question is what is it doing now? Some of that corrosion on the metal parts could be just from sitting. Depending on where it was stored, moisture likes to collect on aluminum parts and make them look ugly.
If it is currently leaking, replace the pump.

Yep. Look at my waterpump & Opti at 24K miles.

drip, leak, splish, splash...

I fixed it with a new Opti and CSI electric waterpump.

Thanks. I tried to find a dark red color to match my car, but the high temp paint selection was really lacking.

Yup, your weep hole is DEFINETELY leaking. When I bought my CSI electric water pump, I PLUGGED that damn weep hole. It's nothing but an opti-killer. Never had any problems. Just filled it with epoxy.

hey thanks for all the replys! yeah im pretty pissed about it leaking. once and a while when i get under there, there is a tiny little drop of coolant at the bottom of the water pump! but seems like something was pouring out at one time!! like i said, im going to try and hold off for a while. ive done the job before on a few car and its not that big of a deal! next year i want to do a cam and headers, so hopefully it will last me till then that way i can change everything and do new plugs/wires too.

Why did you get rid of your 95 and get a 94 camaro?
i guess i always need a change! the red one was a real nice low mileage car also, but the black one was a friend of my dads, and the opportunity was too good to pass up!!

heres a quick question.... when i do decide to go with the hotcam package, wouldnt that be a good time to convert over the vented opti?? what else would i have to change in order to make the swap?? thanks in advance!!

Consider a cam recommendation from Combination Motorsports.

Shoebox, or any one that has done it before, how much does the swap cost roughly? Just thsoe parts on the list.

Also, when doing an LT4 hot cam swap, does the opti need to be converted also since the LT4 was for '96 (I think).

1995RedZ28, are you gettign any trouble at all from the opti?? Hessitation or vibrations? If I were you, start saving up now to do the swap all at once.

Anderson- yeah it seems im getting a slight hesitation from the car. it bothers me a little, but like i said i kind of wanted to wait and do everything (water pump, opti, cam, plugs, and wires) all at the same time. i know it would make no sense to replace the opti and water pump, then take it off again in a few months. thats why im gonna start saving up now, and just drive the car as it is. my problem is that i spend $$ too fast! once i get the idea i wanna do something to the car, i just go and do it! ive only had the car for a month or so and have already dumped $2000 into it!

also the question anderson asked about HAVING to change to a vented opti was pretty good! i never really thought about that. im guessing i would have to change over since the cam is for the 95+ cars correct!? thanks again for all the help guys! later.

Joe's Muttevette is nice, but I like his Camaro better He also has a road raced L98 422 stroker, solid roller Vette.

The 94 opti setup sucks, upgrade for sure
