Im getting a metal tapping noise, Im pretty sure its the bearing on the back of the water pump or the impeller inside it. I ued the method of using a screwdriver and putting it to my ear and I can tell its the water pump or the water pump drive gear. This common before they fail?

already checked the valve lash, no loose rockers, and no header leaks. No its not a spun bearing either.

 

Anyone ever heard of the bearing failing in the drive gear assembly?

The water pump on my stocker had 130K+ on it. Never made a sound. When I removed it to do the opti I saw the bearing had actually lost some *****. Chances are yours is the same.

I hate when they loose some *****
