Question Water Pump Gear Sleeve Question!

Is there a certain way this has to go on? It looks like it's the same on both ends inside. But the out side has a ring at one of the ends. I took it off before I noticed this and was wondering which end the ring has to go on? The block or water pump? Thanks.

I don't think it really matters, but when I took mine off, the "ring" faced the block.

Would it matter if it was backwards? 50/50 chance if you don't pay attention.

It matters enough that the instructions with my replacement water pump said which way to orient it. Whether it will really hurt anything I don't know.

Well, I guilty of not taking note of that part of it. Might be right, might be wrong. If I pull it off to check, it will be right. If I leave it, it will be wrong. Right? Oh well. No worries.

Re: Water Pump Gear Sleeve Question!

Is there a groove near one end of the coupling/sleeve? If there is, the end with the groove, will go toward the engine block.

The groove is what I was talking about. Thanks for the help.

Re: Water Pump Gear Sleeve Question!

Look REAL close at the I.D. (inside diameter) at each end, and see if you can tell any difference.
