water pump gaskets

Where can I find some water pump gaskets? Can I just go to any parts store? When I took my pump off, it seemed like there wasn't even any gaskets on it, it was just like gunky stuff that I scraped off with a razor. Is that because they were old or can you put some kind of sealant on to replace a gasket?
Thanks

Any autoparts store, although just RTV will work fine as well..... as long as you do it right.

Is there a good brand or something of the RTV stuff I should look for? And what would be considered doing right?

Re: water pump gaskets

Doing it right just means making sure to have all the surfaces covered.

It sounds like you don't have the RTV, so you might as well just get the gaskets, it's cheaper anyways. The gaskets are available at any auto parts store, they're like 50 cents a piece. If you're going to use RTV just get permatex black RTV.
