water pump coupling

I'm currently replacing the dead electric water pump on my 95z with a standard pump, my question is the pumps drive shaft. I'm under the belief that a coupler connects the shaft coming out of the wp and the one out of the timing chain cover, am I right? and what is it called ( or a part number) if I'm wrong how do the two shafts meet up?
