Water pump?
Water pump?
I am in need of a new water pump. I have a 96 LT1 camaro, anybody have any preference on which pump to get. I have the choice of a stock replacement, CSR performance electric water pump, or a Meziere electric water pump? anyone have the electric water pumps and any pro an cons??..thanks
Re: Water pump?
I like the Meziere EWP, it's been a popular install for a few years now.
I think it's a great investment ($199 + a few hours work)
http://www.ws6.com/kelley-wp.htm
PRO : Helps reduce HP loss, (dynoed by several people at +5-10rwhp)
Runs cooler (I've seen a few people disagree on that one)
CON : Does not last as long as a mechanical pump.
Either way, when the pump fails (mechanical or otherwise), your engine will get hot and you will need to replace the pump. If it leaks (I don't see the EWP being any more likely to do so than a mechanical pump) you run the risk of frying the optispark ("distributor").

Re: Water pump?
I've always had a CSR on my cars. I've never had a problem with them.
One of the best advantages, is that if it does go bad, your not going to have coolant dripping allover your Opti. Sure the temp will rise but that's why they put temp gauges on these cars.

Re: Water pump?
Went to a CSR about a month ago. Working OK so far.
Averaged just under 19k on the last 3 mech pumps so decided
an electric couldn't be worse! Hope I didn't just jinx it!
Reads about 197-201 city and highway on my scanner. (180 stat)
'94 M6 mostly stock (except for ewp)

However, when the electric goes out and you need to
replace it, it will take about 20 minutes to change out.
I've replaced the mechanical a couple of times and
switched to the Meziere. I *guarantee* that I would
rather change out the Meziere rather than the stock,
two to one.
I calculated the "hours of operation" I should get out
of the Meziere, and it's close to 3 years.
FWIW, I've always stuck with stock. But then I also have a lifetime warranty. Plus I like the idea of never having to worry about if my water pump is actually working (I know there are ways to wire up warning lights, but I just like the peace of mind).

This is the Meziere heavy duty electric pump for 236.00. This is the one I bought and its been great. The standard Meziere EWP is rated @ 42GPM. The HD is rated @ 50 GPM.
