Question Water Pump?

I'm looking to buy a 97 WS6. When I talked to the guy today he said he just got the car inspected and the water pump is leaking. The car has 76,000 miles on it. He said it would cost $400 to repair. My questions are, how hard is it to replace myself and how much will it cost for me to accuire the parts? Thanks.

If the waterpump is leaking, then the Opti probably needs replaced too... it's right under the water pump. Probably another $400, for labor and parts. I didn't think it was too difficult, more of a PITA.

Ok, I looked at the car and the coolant was spraying all over the inside of the engine bay. He said the pump started leaking yesterday. I bet it was leaking before and he just didn't know it. I did an AutoCheck and everything came up clean. Some of the pannels didn't line up exactly right. He is desperate to sell because he lost his job and he said he'd sell the car for $6500. What do you think?

i bet i drove this car....let me guess....its a white formula ws6.....it also has 30th anniversary badging....guess what.....97 was 30th anniv for camaros not firebirds.....if it is located in N.Dallas just off tollway you better steer clear brother......

ac was dead....windshield cracked....and my guess not a real ws6.....only thing i liked was the shifter....

i could be wrong though.....he was asking $9200 when i saw it 2-3 weeks ago....

I think you can find a better car, keep looking. That doesn't sound like an awesome deal, nor a good car.

Here is the guide I followed when I replaced my waterpump & Opti. Look through the thumb pics, read the procedure, tools, etc. Then you should have an idea of whether it's something you'd be able to handle.

guide

I upgraded to an electric waterpump when I did mine, so it was sort of an upgrade. Luckily, the car your looking at is a 97 (or 96) so the Opti isn't too expensive, compared to the 93-94 cars.

I'd definitely pass on that car if it's the same that tohigh4you described.

Thanks for the guide. I've already looked at another guide and it doesn't seem to be hard to replace. I have decided against the purchase. There are too many unknowns about the car even with the AutoCheck. The car could have been wrecked and he just did not report to insurance. Thanks for the replys.

My water pump was leaking very badly this winter, and the opti is still going strong.
