Water lines that go into the back of the heads. I need a question answered.

I have a 93 Z28 that I just got and it is leaking water from behind the intake manifold. The guy I bought it from thought that the head was cracked after some machine work he got done. Well in order to get the head off he had to cut the line going into the driver side head to get it off. I guess he couldn't get it unscrewed. Well he put the two cut pieces back together with some hose and clamps . It has held up for a year but I think it has finally gone south. I cant see it from up top. My question is can I see it from the bottom or can I put the new hose in from the top. Thanks.

You should be able to unbolt the bolts holding it on on the back of the head with a socket. You can't see them but you can feel them. If it was me I would put a new line on if at all possible.

Don't the two lines at the rear of the heads go forward to the front of the intake and hook to a rubberhose with clamps. If so the hose on the back of the heads should not be a problem if good hose and clamps were used. Frank95z

A rubber hose and clamps will work fine..
It is just a water line..Alot of guys cut the metal line between the heads to make it easier to pull off the heads, then just put a piece of good rubber hose with clamps on it to connect it back..

I doubt you could see it from under the car. Use a mirror up top.

You need to climb into your engine bay . You can see if from the top. No way from the bottom with the trans in the car..... Also you might as well replace it with a new one. It didn't come from the factory like that for a reason. I don't know the reason but I am sure there is one...

Cool

You can reach it from the top. It will be right at the very top of the engine block, below the intake. May be a bit hard to get to if you have EGR and the like.
I removed the drivers side bajo bolt and installed a 90 degree brass barb and cut the entire length of the tube and replaced it with hose. Makes it much easier to get the heads off

I'm kinda surprised no one makes a nice braided hose set-up for that. Maybe I should market one.

Climb into the engine bay? what are you 3 feet tall?
I lay on the top of the engine, sort of half on the engine half on the fender, that way I can reach back and work on stuff back there. You are working blind most of the time but with some patience it can be done.

I got it. SWEET! I paid 3500 for a car that was thought to have a cracked head. Turns out the rubber hose he used was vacuum hose. I replaced it with some good hose and clamps. It works like a champ. I got one hell of a deal.

It pays to have knowledge (or know where to get it).

shoebox... I really must pick your brain. I have about 100 LT1 questions and you seem to always have the right answers.

If you email me, I will try to answer what I can. Don't kid yourself, I don't know all this stuff. There are lots of people on this board that have expertise in certain areas. I look to them to learn the things I am not knowledgeable about. Great way to learn something.
