warning lights
what would cause the air bag and BRAKE light to be on...
no abs/inop thats off...
just these 2...i built the car from the ground up basically...and only thing wrong is rear rotors were cut warped(dont ask) but i cant find a common ground or anything im just kinda lost any thing i can check? also the radio will not come on, the lights light up but it wont turn on (could this be theft lock?
this is a 95 z28...

Re: warning lights
ok ill start by saying the car ahs an alarm with a bypass switch, the alarm is not functional so you have to use this switch to start...
my voltage seems good, even driving down the road these lights stay on.....but i have a problem when i hit the starter on my car the ground wire on the drivers side to the motor was burning, (smoking) if i stayed on it long, otherise its fine.....so i installed a bigger ground wire...now all is fine...but i still have a BRAKE light on, a AIR BAG light on...and the radio lights up but none of it works!
every other function of the car seems great...im assuming there is a common ground somewhere that is bad with these...
id also like to add that these lights were going off like normal, then i went on a few test drives finally the ground wire i thought was giving out and the car woulodent start...so i added a new ground wire...but right as thie old ground wire was going out the lights started staying on...so i think not only this wire was getting hot and burning, there is probably another somewhere that has gotten weak and burned during this
also do yall think this is the starter causing the problem of the ground burning? it doesnt sem to struggle now that i have a big ground..

Re: warning lights
First question is what happens to the lights in question when the key (or what ever your turning?) is first turned on and the PCM goes thru its diagnostics?
Second, oddly enough, there are 2 fuses connected with the radio operation. One is the dimmer fuse which is used in illumination of the radio lights and the other is fuse #17 which is used in powering up the radio. Check it and if it's ok, pull the radio to see if it's getting power on the yellow wire. To be more accurate, there is a 3rd fuse which is used to keep the memory alive in the radio and it is the courtesy fuse #8. But this is obviously not your problem.
As for the brake and air bag lights, there is not a common ground point between them. I'll go out on a limb and say the brake light is from improper bleeding of the brakes without shuttling the ABS motors out and back to home position while bleeding. If so, the light should go out if the fluid level is correct over time.
My last guess on the air bag light is something is awry in the air bag circuit. Such as.... Not connected or if someone had the column apart, it got turned and the clock spring has bit the dust. When the column is disconnected, it can't be turned or damage to the air bag clock spring will result. If this is the case, and you don't mind removing the air bag permanently, I can give you a solution that won't cost any money. I did it to mine when I put a nice aftermarket steering wheel in. I allowed the air bag system to appear to function properly and pass the pre ignition test and the light goes out when it's supposed to and the state inspector is fat, dumb and happy. Well maybe not happy. LOL

Re: warning lights
the brake light just comes on and stays on...air bag flashes 10 or so times then stays on
the radio fuses are ok...so i gues ill pull the dash apart and try to check them tonite...i have no idea what heppend to the radio because it was comming on a few days ago(but your couldent turn the volume on or change stations?) and now it stopped...it only lights up the background lights
the BRAKE light i thought pertained to the emergency brake only...i figured the switch for it might be bad? what is shuttling the abs motors? they are bleed ive bleed them all 3 seperate times...
the air bag light was off too..it was off after the motor install ect, it suddenly started comming on...the air bags will have to be functional..but i do have a ""race car"" that i already have the pasenger airbag removed from...but im still wanting to keep the drivers aribag in both of my cars...anyways any other ideas? im goaan go check the power to the radio and to the fuse panel later when it cools off

Re: warning lights
weird but after i fixed the pressure plate today the BRAKE light went off.....hmmm there is a ground on the wire harness that connects near the knock sensor...does this link to the AIR BAGS or radio anywhere?
that would be the only think i can think that i touched that would cause the brake light to go off...

Re: warning lights
finally got a chance to look at it now that ive got my tuning issues with the other car fixed....
yes the radio has power, turns on, changes stations(gets no reception) adn the volume will turn on and off the radio but the volume wont more

Re: warning lights
The radio itself might be dead. This is the exact same thing mine did. Replaced the radio and it worked fine. I found one on EBAY that had a non functional CD player cheap, swapped out the CD module and it works great.
