Wants to Die when shifting to drive (A4)
My car has a problem of wanting to die when I try to shift from nuetral to drive. It idles fine and then when I put on the brake and try to shift it into drive it dies when it hits nuetral. It also doesn't go into park all of the time. I put it in P and it's still in reverse sometimes. I've looked at the shift cable and there's no way of adjusting it. I've heard somepeople say that the cables can get stretched but you think if it was strecthed it wouldn't go into D1 all of the time instead of into park. I just put in my new 383 and I'm trying to work out all of the bugs. Any ideas?

I am not sure on how to check the switch but you should be able to unplug the switch which i believe is on the bell housing. I've never really looked at the 4l60e so i am unsure of the switch location. If you unplug the switch the only down side is that the converter won't lock up and your gas milage will suffer a little. As a note i have unplugged the switch on the TH125 (3 speed transaxel in Grand am) before when i had the exact same problem. I was having to put the car in (N)uetral at stop signs and then rev up to engage
(D)rive other wise the car would stall.

Thanks. I'll have to see if I can find the exact location of the wires and see how to replace the switch in the trans. Maybe I'll get lucky and someone will read this and have pics and diagrams of this.
