Most direct and intelligent reply yet.

LT4s as cast are not well suited ot a sub-7000rpm 350/355, ported does not help that fact but rather exagerates it. Be a great dyno queen but the guy in the other lane with properly worked LT1 heads will make you realize you wasted a lot of cash.

Re: Wanting to go LT4

For what you will pay you easily can put a LE1 or LE2 package on, and make ALOT more power. With an LE1, the idle quality isnt going to be too much different, and driveability would be close to the same.
Please show me the actual evidence of this assertion.

Although I cannot argue one way or the other, there is a callout for moderation in power that may be the point here. Not everyone wants sixty gazillion horsepower that snaps axles and driveshafts with ease.

If it's just money vs HP, then spray until your pistons blow through the hood.

Re: Wanting to go LT4

Look at a dyno of a LE1, or LE2 set up versus a LT4 HOT CAM conversion.

I cant remember who all has them posted, but do a search for them.

The LE1 and 2 set up make more power all the way across the board. And as far as the LE1 set ups go, if you talk to LE, or Bret, they'll both tell you a LE1 will drive very close to stock. Only difference being that it will pull all the way to 6,000, and make about 30 more HP than the LT4 Heads and Hot Cam conversion will.

Bottom line, LE1 heads > LT4 Heads as they come in the kit
LE1 Cam ~ Significantly more top end > LT4 Hot Cam with similar bottom end, and slightly lopier idle quality. Doesnt need to really rev much higher than a Hot Cam car either. Shifted at around 6200-6300 ...

Re: Wanting to go LT4

Well as some of the more informitive post gave me the info I was seeking and others..well simply did not....I wasn't familiar with the LE setups, as i have focused alot of my attention towards the build up of an LS1 car here soon and have been working with a buddy of mine to duplicate a similar setup he has on his 01 Z28....was asking because Im looking to just add a lil more "ummph" to the LT1 but not a *** load of power...due to it will be my G/Fs car when I start my LS1 build...or it will be sold to a friend of mine and left for the G/F to find her own damn ride.....

Re: Wanting to go LT4

ehh, its only as fast as you let it be. You can always go bigger, and drive it easy.

Either way though, good luck with it.

And in all honesty, if your just looking for alittle more out of it, buy the GM hot cam kit, dont waste the money on the heads. Or you could look around for some used ported heads on the For Sale section on here. I bought stuff a few times now with no problems. I suggest it to anyone, as long as you know and are OK with the risks you are putting yourself in.
