Good replacement fan for LT1 Z?

I am looking for a good replacement fan(s) for my 94 m6 z28. The stock fans just dont seem to flow enough. What is a good replacement? and how many CFM should i look for?

Thanks!

I believ Spal (sp) has a replacement fan, stock dual fans do good though. They usally arent the problem with a car running hot. After a 160 T-stat & PCM4less tune my LT1 runs no hotter than 160*. This is comming from a car that use to run 225+ all the time.

Well mine has a tune for 160*, but if i put a 160* thermo in it it over heats. so i run a 180* - and when the car does run hot it gets to about 215*.

My problem is that only one fan runs- and since i dont have the AC hooked up the other doesnt kick on- EVER, so i hotwired the secondary fan to the other fan ( b/c the #1 fan is hotwired to come on w/ ignition.) but it blows relay's all the time and i cant find replacement relays
Especially at Autozone.

Souds like you need to resolve electrical issues, not replace the stock fans.

Re: Good replacement fan for LT1 Z?

stock setup is good for about 600hp...you shouldnt have cooling issues unless you need to replace something like the pump or drain/clean the radiator. if you havent cleaned it out now's a good time to replace the coolant...it does go bad too. it gets scale and buildup just like anything else. i wouldnt run any of the coolant flush systems, just water until the water comes out clean...go both directions, go from the t-stat and from the lower block outlet. check all the lines for spongy feeling or soft rubber feeling...replace the t-stat...it's only about 10 bucks. try running some wetter or purple ice.

I've already flushed it man, its clean. the thermostat in is less than 2 mos old. it doesnt over heat, and it only runs warm on hot days or on long trips. I was just wondering if there was anything i could do for my fans. the secondary fan doesnt seem like it pulls as much air through as the #1 fan. there is nothing blocking them or anything, it just seems like it doestn pull as much. When i had just the 1 fan on the car never blew a relay, but now i have the 2 on and it blows the relay- i suppose i need to hotwire the 2nd fan circuit just like the 1st fan, then i probably wouldnt have a problem huh?
Thanks

Re: Good replacement fan for LT1 Z?

sounds to me like you have other cooling issues and it isnt the fans. When driving, enough air should get thru the radiator, so the fans arent even needed. You said it overheats on long trip, so sounds like you have other issues

Only one fan runs because your engine is not getting hot [215°]. The second fan would not be commanded on at that low of a temperature (I assume you have a 2 relay system). Also, a 160° thermostat should not make it run hotter. Something wrong there. Your relay problem may be due to your "creative" wiring to make the other fan come on.
I don't think replacing fans is going to solve your problems.

It may not, but the # 1 fan was already "creatively" wired like that, i only wired the 2nd fan to it.. - its not like its overheating or anything, i was just wondering..- but for real though- it will overheat if i put the 160 back in..thats wierd as hell..

is the 160 a LT1 style t-stat, not a regular sbc one?

I would put the wiring back to stock and start from there.

If you want to change when your fans go on / off the right way would be to edit the computer file. Is your airdam scoop on under the car? this will cause it to run hot on the highway.
