Want to do 1.6 RR's but need some help, Please
Ok. I just got seme 1.6 Self-Aligning Roller Rockers. I hear so much about different springs. What springs should I get? Also what else is good to do when I got the valve covers off, like pushrods, valves, etc. Please let me know. Thanks a lot

Since we have 96's I believe we recieved hardend pushrods from the factory (unless I'm confused with something else) And I don't see why we can't use the stock springs... so unless you have something wrong with your pushrods that would pose a reason to change etc... I'd just leave everything.

With a stock cam there's a good chance you'd be fine. Although as long as you're at it I'd definitely buy some insurance with some stouter springs.
All pushrods do is open and close the valves. Hardened ones won't give you more power. The only way you can get more power is if your pushrods are the wrong length and your valvtrain geometry is off. You won't have this problem becuase yours is stock. It would probalby be wise to take them out and do the glass roll test to check for straightness...again more insurance and it's a simple thing to do while you have the rockers off. Simply find a flat surface (mirror works good) and roll them on it. If they are bent get new ones becuase they are super cheap. All a hardened pushrod is going to do for you is stand up to more stress without bending. With a stock cam it shouldn't be necessary. If you find yourself replacing them anyways then get hardened ones becuase there is no point in saving a couple pennies for a cheap component that could potentially screw up your engine.

you can get LT4 springs from the dealer. I believe thunder racing has them and summit.
New valves aren't necessary unless the existing ones are worn. Beyond that it's a question of how much you want to spend. We good go on all day - but if you are going to replace the valves it's probably worth going to a machien shop to have them do it and while they are at it do a valve cut back and valve job - they will also bake the heads which will get rid of carbon deposits. This is a pretty simple and inexpensive thing to do and probably wortht he money. My valve job and cut back ran around $120-140 or so.
As for different pushrods i covered that in my previous post

Thats cool. I just noticed you have a B4C too. So I should just get LT4 springs, and leave it at that, for a simple yet effective, but not too drastic upgrade?
Thanks for the replys

I used my Crane Gold 1.6 for 100,000 miles with no problems with stock springs, however did change out for better springs when I had the heads off for reconditioning due to a blown head gasket.

Alrighty.....Ok how do I change the springs without the valves falling in? I dont want to use a air compressor cause thats a pita, and the one i have dosent work for more than 2 minutes. so there has god to be a different way to do it....anyone know??

There is a way to find tdc and then move the engine around in 90 degree steps and do them .You should find exact way.Compressor is pain in lt1 since spark plug access is awful unless you have headers.Rope in cylinders is another way but again you have to take out plugs.I did the 90 degree thing in my ls1 and it worked fine.
