Wanna start new motor. PLEASE HELP !!
Wanna start new motor. PLEASE HELP !!
Ok, Here is what I got. I am putting a 6 speed in an auto car. I pulled the 6 speed and pedals, computer, engine harness off my old car then sold the car as a roller.
Sold the auto tranny and motor (with auto wiring harness) of the car I am putting the 6 speed into.
Ok 2 questions:
Will this steering column work ok, I noticed it had some levers on top of it that i assume work the key switch so that it will only let you start it in drive or neutral I think this is called the neutral safety switch. Have no idea what I am suppose to do with that.
Second is what do I do about the clutch having to be pushed in to start the car? Like stated above, The car has a 6 speed computer, 6 speed harness, but auto dash. <- Meaning the wires for all the pedals hook up to auto pedal switches.
I am gonna have this car ready to start it has been a 1 1/2 year project and when I turn the key I dont want this to be what stops me from starting it.
I have seen several How to's on doing this, but the ones I have seen use an auto harness which I have sold. (too bad before I started looking into this)
PLEASE help I am sure you can understand after all the hard work and waiting I just dont want this to be what is keeping me from firing it up.
Thanks,
Mike
Its the motor in the signature, As you can see its gonna be a big change from the old setup of mac shorties, air foil, CAI, and Crane ignition.

Been there, done that.
You auto trans key switch will work fine. I think what you're referring to is the button that manual trans cars come with that'll keep you from pulling out the key unless you press it while removing the key.
As far as wiring goes, you need to get yourself a wiring schematic out of a shop manual or find one online. You need to cut off the connector that went to the stock auto shifter and rewire it acordingly and splice in the factory connectors to plug into the transmission. I recommend solder and heat shrink. Off hand I dont think polarity is important on any of the circuits, but double check.

So you ran a 6 speed engine/tranny harness on an auto console?
Besides the clutch switch was there anything else you had to change on wiring up?
Anyone have a shematic for 95 cars
Helms manuals just cost too much.
I wish I kept the auto harness, I can find out how you do that easily online.
Also the neutral safety switch on auto cars is on top of the column. Since having a 6 speed computer and harness. Do I even have to hook that up anymore? It the switch that has 2 rods on it and runs from the automatic shifter. It alows the ignition to turn when it park or neutral. All other gears it locks the ignition.

No. I ran a stock A4 harness and computer reprogrammed for an A4. Reluctor ring sizes are different between the two. The stock wiring for the 4L60-E just sits there tied up and secured to the T-56. After cutting the hole I used the factory boot and console plate. I think I just cut and extended some wires, and the wiring I think is identical between the 95 and earlier cars (not sure on that last one)
As far as the cable from the shifter for the key lock, it just needs to be secured. no need to hook it up.
