w/ a 230/236 112 cam, do i need lt4 timing set?

I just realized that I cannot change to the lt4 timing chain w/out switching out the sprockets as well (or thats what thunderracing told me). So I am at the cam in my cam install... w/ this cam, do I need a stronger timing set, or will a replacement lt1 chain do? any quick advice is helpful on this subject.

thanks,
Eddy

For a piece of mind you could go with an LT4 Extreme duty kit, but it's not necessary. Just don't use your exsisting set if it has alot of mileage on it.

at the very least, get new stock sprockets/gears.....and new stock timing chain.

you can afford it.....it should be around $50-60 for all of it............would you rathing pay a little now? or a whole lot later when your old chain snaps or gears break off a tooth and you fug your motor up?

I installed the extreme duty set with my 224/230.. really for peace of mind.. it's a beefy chain setup.

I would at the very LEAST get a fresh stocker timing set, chain, sprockets included.

thanks a bunch for the quick replies first off.

I went to the local scoggin dickeys today and picked up the full lt1 timing set (crank and cam sprockets and lt1 chain).

My question now is how many miles could I run on this timing chain before putting in the lt4 hd? I dont want anything in there to break, and I eventually will do heads as well.... maybe I should just change it out when I get the heads?

thanks again...
Eddy

I dont plan on running it past 6200 rpms personally.... If I could peak by then I would be happy. might my shorty headers make it peak a little more than that? longtubes might need to be next...

That chain will only work if he intends to use an Elec. water pump.
(Double roller won't work with the stock water pump)
If not it has to be a stock replacement or an LT4 extreme duty.

Cloyes offers both a double roller and a single (single not requiring an elec water pump)

If I remember correctly, the TC that cmotorsports offers doesn't require an elec WP...

I learn something new everyday...I didn't know that Cloyes had one that would work...Good info to know.

Yeah I hear the elec WP can add as much as 8-10 rwhp and keep everything cool....only problem is that they dont last but maybe a couple of years...
