Voltage fluctuating and drops low, voltage regulator?

Yesterday, when i was driving, i noticed when i come to a stop, the voltage drops really low, almost to the red line on the gauge, and this has never happened before.

When i hit the gas a little, it goes up but then falls right back down.

im assuming it is the voltage regulator on the alternator, but what is the cheapest way to fix that, or do i need to get a new alternator.

I also installed an underdrive pulley kit with the alternator pulley also.

just trying to figure out another alternative rather than buying another alternator, and this is a 160 amp alternator that i bought about 2 years ago.

thanks

Did this start after the pulley install?

seems like it did about 4 days after the pulley install. But it didn't do it for the first few days.

Sounds about right with an underdrive pulley. After I put mine on I killed my battery within 6 months. I put an overdrive pulley on and never had a problem. An underdrive pulley will tax the crap out of a battery.
What's your idle set at?

idle is around 1100 right now, so do you think i should get an overdrive pulley for the alternator?
