Basically uou have to change the entire valvetrain to accomadate a solid roller cam. The cam is not really any different, its the soild lifter rollers that make it a solid roller. The block needs to be machined as well to accept the solid lifters

What has to be machined for lifters? My buddys 396 was SR, then back to HR, then back to SR and he didnt have additional block prep done inbetween the swaps. He may have to start with(dont know?), but i would think it then would be impossible to go back to HR. Info please

I know you use galley plugs, but what machining did you have to do to get a solid roller lifter to work?

i used comp cams extreme duty solid roller lifters. they are each connected in pairs by a metal bar. The lifer galley had to be machined to fit for the lifters

Very nice, and thanks for the preview of what my 260/267 solid roller might eventually sound like.

So what's the drivability like? Is surging a problem? Are you idling around 1,000-1,100 rpm or so? And finally, what did you do about your brake booster? Are you running a vacuum pump to assist?

Thanks!

Sweet! If you're going to have a big cam, you might as well have the sound to go with it.

Looks waaaay to fast... at least for me to keep up with.

it idles good at about 900 RPM. Drivability is ok i suppose, the bullets are actually way too loud and I am changing them out for some hooker areochambers next week. As far as brakes, they work, but i am in need of a vacuum system for the brakes as well as crankcase. I am looking into electric vac pumps, but havent made a decsion yet.

ported/ polished LT1 castings, combustion chamber reshaped and polished. valve shrouds cut out to allow greater low lift flow. custom exhaust chamber shaping. oversized race valves. total comp cams extreme valvetrain.

Custom ground 260/260 solid roller, forged rotating assembly, 383ci, JE forged pistons with low tension rings, 12.3:1 compression, Canton road race oil pan, Jet hot long tubes, custom true duals with x pipe, 58 MM throttle body, MSD digital 6 with MSD blaster coil, other stuff too. Put down 431 RWHP before the MSD digital 6 and on a bad tune.

Why did you use a same pattern cam??

Oh and i used Comp EndurX solid lifters on my solid roller setup and no block machining is needed. Just drop them in.
