Very wierd engine noise

Hello I have a 1995 camaro Z28 6speed. After not driving the car for about three days I went to start it up. upon trying to start it up It didnt want to so I tried again and heard a loud pop/crack noise then engine started. Now the engine has a really loud banging sound coming from the engine. I really cannot narrow it down. I took of the driver side valve cover and ran the engine the noise seemed to get louder.

It had normal oil pressure as well as being full on oil.

Could it be a connecting Rod??

Any help is extremely appreciated, thanks will

Re: Very wierd engine noise

I have one of these in the shop right now.
Sounded exactly like a bad lifter.

Cause it was.

But the sound was not gone.....

So I cut the oil filter open at the top flange of the oil filter
guess what full of metal and brass.

Pull your oil filter and cut it open and take it to some good light.

Re: Very wierd engine noise

If it was a rod would the oil pressure be normal? it doesnt fluctuate at all.

Would a lifter be this loud? It was so loud I really coud tell were it was coming from. It is very constant steady rapping.

It really baffles me because The oil and filter were changed about 1,000miles ago with 130k on the car.

I ran the car for maybe a total of one minute and while trying to start it it did give me trouble.

If it is a rod does anyone know of a place near San Francisco, CA to get a rebuilt LT1 or get mine rebuilt and installed. I got one estimate for approxamately $2,300 to get a rebuilt LT1 and install it with a one year warranty.

thanks, will

thats a pretty good price.
I got a quote of 1600 in san bruno just to change the heads.
About 2000 to swap an engine if I provide the engine.

Re: Very wierd engine noise

Thanks for the reply. I think I am still gonna have to wait a while till I get some money to put into the car. I will still try to confirm if it is a rod noise at all. I think I might take it to a mechanic. just to have them listen and diagnose before I go and drop that much money.

thanks again, will

Re: Very wierd engine noise

Well today I called the same place that I got the 2300 dollar estimate and it turns out he quoted be for a regular SBC 350 not an LT1. And the price ffrom there would be about 4K for a new one. But they do have a low miles LT1 with a six month warranty for 3100 installed.

I was thinking could the noise I am hearing be something else like te water pump or a drivetrain problem? Maybe a broken flywheel bolt? I am just guessing here.

any help is highly appreciated. thanks, will
