Very Important question about PUSHRODS. Motor might me DEAD!!!!!!

I went to the track last weekend and ran great. A 12.7. Well today it ran like **** and one of my friends though it was the valves. Sure enough it was. I lashed the drivers side, but when i went to the pass side a pushrod was GONE Nowhere to be seen. Im worried sick now. I had an extra pushrod so i put it in. But where could have to other gone. Im afraid it broke and is floating around in the lifter valley. What problems could this cause. It was not like it was running terribly rough which is wierd. I cant see any particles of the pushrod anywhere. And i no i didnt forget to put it in when i replaced the rr's

heh, interesting, yeah, its probably in the valley. I know I would want to get that out, one thing you MIGHT try is throwing one of those magnet rods down in there and see if you can grab it out or something before I pulled the intake...unless you can do that easy enough. I couldn't see it being a huge problem unless it got just right in an oil passage or some ****, but I forget how it looks in there. I would get it out before I drove it much, but thats just me. Hopefully it didn't kill the lifter.

PULL THE INTAKE and dont run the motor. The LT1 intake is not that bad and if you got very lucky you haven't screwed anything up you may be able to just pull the intake grap whats left of your pushRod and be ok. Also pull the lifter and inspect for dammage. Good luck and I hope all is well. BTW never seen this one before.

Man... Can't believe what I just read...

PULL that intake and get that pushrod carcass out of there! Leaving it in would be sorta like having surgury on your chest, and having the doctor leave a clamp or something in your chest!

... No No doc, it's ok. It's only a clamp. Just leave it in there, sew me back up and let me go home. I've got TV to watch!!!

Break out the wrenches dude...

Was it the whole pushrod? Was it broken, bent, or straight? I would say that you might have dodged a bullet but you need to figure out why it happened otherwise, it will more than likely happen again.

I would change your oil and check for metal particles and then run for maybe run for a few hundred miles and then change it again.

it was broke, but still in one piece. No particles were in the oil. Im pretty sure it happened because the rocker was to loose and it didnt help that i just had gotten done racing it at the track. I replaced all 8 rods on that side and now it runs GREAT. that pushrod has been broken for a while and i had been driving it like that unaware. It was running a little rough, but not enough for concern. I drove it like that for about 400 miles.

I think you are taking an risk for a couple of hours work. Pull the intake and make sure no other dammage ocured. If the roccker was that loose then the lifter was getting smashed untill the thing finaly broke,
