VAts trouble help needed

Measured my key reading 1.8-1.9 ohms

So off to radio shack I go.

Only problem is they only have 2 resistors in the range.

1.5 and 2.2 ... would any one of these work to disable my vats?

NEITHER. It must be exact or it wont start. You will have to put two or more resistors together to equal the amount you need.

This probably dont belong here but I will answer it anyway. Simply put, no neither one of those resistors will work. What you will need to do is get a combination of different resistors and put them together by hand until you get the right resistance value. Now a couple of other things; #1 the resistance value on the resistor will not be the exact resistance of that particular resistor. If you look on the package it will say in small lettering 5% tolerance so if you buy a 1K resistor it can measure anywhere from 950 to 1050 ohms. Needless to say you may have to try a couple of different combinations to get that particular resistance on your key. #2 Whatever ohmmeter you are using to measure the key with is the ohmmeter you want to build the resistor clip with. I have tested one key with 4 or 5 different ohmmeters and only 2 of the come close to reading the exact same (within 5 ohm). Also when you are done making this resistor clip I would solder the connecting wires together with some good electrical solder for peace of mind. (I had one unravel on me one time and was a PITA trying to get to and fix in the middle of the country with no tools.) There is a website somewhere that gives all the "ideal" resistance values and the tolerances that GM allows, but I don't remember where I saw it.

With all that being said, Good Luck!
