Various Questions After Rebuild
Various Questions After Rebuild
Alright I just got done with the rebuild again (couple loose rod bolts
) and after a few heat cycles the cars still running great with no knocks or anything of the sort. But I do have a few concerns, first, oil pressure, at idle of 500 when it’s warmed up I’m at around 20 psi and anything above 1000 it’s at 40. Cold it’ll get up to about 60. Only thing I’m concerned about is the idle, I know my bearing clearances were a bit on the bigger side so I’m running 10W-30, should this be a point of worry or is this around what it should be? I’m planning on this to be a street strip sort of car.
Second, I left the car wash, and the car was misfiring fairly bad, got it home pretty much and I know it’s the optispark just getting moisture in it, but how long does it normally take to dry out? I’ve got a fan sitting on it right now.
thanks in advance!

Re: Various Questions After Rebuild
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe I’ll raise the idle to 1000 or something just for the added oil pressure.
I did not wash under the hood but I did get the cowl pretty good and I know that got messed up with pulling the motor a few times. A day later the car will start and rev fine but it doesn’t want to stay idling. There’s a million things that could be wrong there, hoping it’s not the opti though.

Re: Various Questions After Rebuild
Stock programmed idle speed for the A4, fully warmed up (176-degF and above) is 650 RPM in neutral, and 550 RPM in gear.
20 PSI at idle is fine. The "check gages" light doesn't turn on until the pressure is 6 PSI or below. You want 10 PSI per 1,000 RPM..... so look for 50 PSI at 5,000 RPM.
