Valvetrain setups for GM847 or CC306?

hey guys i was wondering what kind of setups you are running with your 847's and 306's im trying to make some decisions on what parts to run with my car. i was considering 918's but i heard a few bad stories about them breaking. i was also thinking about LS7 lifters but i need to know how to measure for the correct pushrod length (i heard they have shallower cups). i am going to run just 1.5 rockers to tame it down a little since i have stock heads (for now) but i still plan on running guide plates with the obvious hardened 1 piece pushrods. let me know what setups you are running with your big cam cars. any advice would be appreciated.

I'm in the process of swapping in a cc306 and I will be using 987 springs, ls7 lifters, and comps 1.6 NSA 7/16 r/r's. I'm only going with the 987 springs because the heads I bought are set up with 986 springs and I can reuse all of the other parts. If you are going to be using 1.5 r/r's you could use the 986 springs. Or buy mine lol. If you do go with a 1.6 r/r you should upgrade because the 986 is just to small to support the cc306. Hope this helped a little

10308-1 Crane Spring Kit, 1.6 Pro Mags, Magnum pushrods, stock lifters. This will work for either.

use the pac springs, 1218 or 1215. they are the same a the comp bee hives but are made in America and dont break. you should check your pusrod length anyway but a pushrod length checker can be had from summit. ls7 lifter worked fine for me. upgrading the rockers now would be a good idea, stock heads or not.

Good luck with your valvetrain.

are you saying that i will have an under performing car? i said "i know bad advice when i see it" because i actually do research on this stuff before i just ask random advice. its like every newbie LT1 guy that their first post is always "MY LT1 IS OVERHEATING" and then tons of people tell him to get a 160 thermostat and the few people that actually know something about these cars are telling him thats its normal for the car to run aprox 230 degrees in stop and go traffic cause thats when the fans kick on. It only takes someone with half a brain to know that a low temp thermostat will do nothing cause its not the thermostat that causes it to run hot its the lack of airflow across the radiator so if you put a low temp stat on all it does is start circulating hot coolant sooner.

i started this thread to get advice, and whos to say that one of these guys isn't a professional engine builder.

CC306, Comp 986 springs, Comp Type R lifters, GMPP 1.6 rockers, stock pushrods.

Been running this setup for 5 years now, makes peak power at 6200rpm with stock heads.

then you either had a faulty stock thermostat or you programed the pcm to kick your fans on sooner. i was just using the last post as an example most newb LT1 guys don't understand that these cars operate anywhere from 180-235 degrees.

i have seen alot of threads refering people with vavletrain questions to you dangalla. so i would like to know what you would do. i just finalized a deal on a gm847 and yes i know its overkill for stock heads but i plan on swapping heads out sometime in the future, but for now i want to know what springs and lifters would you run and would you get the 1.6's now or later and will it even make a difference with mildly ported stock heads.
