Valves and heads ??'s (pics inside)

I took my heads apart and it looks like some cylinders are running rich and some are running lean but I figured I'd ask what y'all think.

Here is the whole set (not in any order)

As you can tell I had some BAD exhaust leaks. I'm sure that's why the valves are so discolored.

Here is a closer look of some valves.

If you look you can see some buildup on the intake valves.

And here are some of the ports. The intake looks kinda oily to me.....is this normal or do I have a problem I need to address with the new heads?

Looks like some of your valve seals were leaking.

That's what I was thinking. I hope it's faster (and quicker )when I put the new heads on it and it's not leaking oil in the cylinders. It only ran a best of 8.1 @ 87MPH in the 1/8th.

~15,000 I probably messed the seals up when I installed the springs. The springs that the machine shop put on were pac springs and I had never heard of them so I assumes they were not good quality....OOPS! I changed them to the 26918's. I had to take the valve guides out to put the seats on the head. Those heads were completely gone through and cleaned when the engine was built ~15K ago. The heads were suppose to be ported but they don't look very ported to me.

What kind of seals did you use? I recommend not using a teflon seal and make sure it pushes down tight over top of the guide.

I'm not sure, the machine shop put them on the first time. But thanks for the advice on the teflon seals. I won't use them. Do you have a suggestion?

You have a lot of oil buildup on the valves for 15k miles - and it does not look like seals were the cause - maybe an intake leak.

Viton metal clad seals are the ones to use - any decent machine shop should have them in stock.
