Valve Stems During Assembly - Preferred Lubricant?

Putting heads back together soon. I know it's recommended to lube the valve stems during assembly, but I think I remember reading that assembly lube is not ideal for this due to comtaminants that get into the combustion chamber or something like that. Not sure.

Anybody know what to use?

Thanks.

Thumbs up

Jeff, if you really think about it....it's only what you put on the intake valve guide that has a chance of going through the combustion chamber, right?

If I'm setting up heads for install within the next couple of days...I just use regular 30w motor oil on the guides. If the heads aren't going to be used within a week or so...I use the assembly lube, that way I'm pretty sure something is there to lube the guide at start up.

Good luck with your engine build. Should be a real screamer when you're done! Keep us posted.

I use Extreme Pressure Lube from CMD but you can use lithium greese or assembly lube. Either way whatever you put on them will not hurt anything if it burns off.

I've used motor oil for many years with excellent results!

I believe Lubriplate is what GOLEN uses too; seems I read that on their site.
