Valve Springs for Stock Cam w/ 1.6RRs
Valve Springs for Stock Cam w/ 1.6RRs
I've done the search, but got different opinions on the various Comp Cam springs. Some say 983s fit without machining, other say it doesn't fit. Some recommend 918s, but requires modification. Others say go Crane or LT4.
Like the signature says, I have a 96 LT1.
So, planning to add 1.6RRs and keep the stock cam. No plans to go to a bigger cam, b/c I'm have a daily driver with high mileage...read too many threads about spun engine bearings...but that's another discussion.
Anyone help with these questions:
1. What valve springs are a good fit for stock cam and 1.6RRs that do NOT require machining the heads?
2. Can I use the stock retainers and locks?
3. Do I need a new valve cover with 1.6RRs?
4. What is the lift with a stock cam and 1.6RRs?
5. Where is the best place to find these springs...CC, Crane, or LT4.
I apologize, and I don't mean to sound rude, but please reply if you know for sure, meaning you've actually installed the springs yourself. I've heard too many "I got a friend that tried blah, blah..." The valvetrain's an important part and I don't want to mess it up...rather do it right the first time around.
Thanks.

Re: Valve Springs for Stock Cam w/ 1.6RRs
The Crane 10308s are a good spring for your application. The spring kit comes with locks, retainers and shims. No machining of the head is required. I ran these on my LT1 with a cc305 cam, spinning to 6600 on a daily basis with no problems.

Why wouldn't you use LT4 springs? They are cheap and work wonderfully for your application. They are proven, good performing springs. I have them with my 1.6 RR's and stock cam.
