Valve springs/seats/retainers/valve locks

I'm going to order the Comp Cams Xe 236/242 on a 110lsa and trying to research for the right parts. I'm looking for the right valve springs, seats, retainers, valve lock combination. The only thing that I see on Thunder Racing and IRS is

Comp Cams Dual Coil Valvesprings, 1.43" diameter -
Comp Cams 10 Degree Titanium Retainers
Comp Cams Valve Locks for Comp #730 Retainer.
Comp Cams Spring Locator Seats_for Comp #987 Valvespring
Comp Cams 1.6 Pro-Magnum Non-Self-Aligning 7/16" stud
GM Guideplates (8 needed)
ARP_Rocker Arm Studs, 7/16"
Comp Cams Hi-Energy hardened pushrods, 7.200
Comp Cams Hydraulic Roller "R" Lifters, SB Chevy
Comp Cams Xe 236/242 110lsa Grind

Those Titanium retainers are DAMN expensive! Do I have any alternatives in terms of retainers for the CC 987 dual coil springs? Do I have the right combination of parts to run this cam?

I would hold off on the push rods till your sure on the length needed. I ended up with 7.300 with a similar setup.
I would go with Manley CM one peice push rods

Ti isnt necessary.. but less valvetrain mass is always nice. It's not as tough as steel.. but unless youre running crazy "ultralight" Ti stuff, I dont think it's much of an issue.

I dont know the specs on that cam offhand, but you might want to look into a 985 spring if you want to stick with Comp stuff. I'd also wait on pushrods like steve said.. might as well.

Push rods are cheap....so i'll wait off on it. The specs are for the Xe 236/242 are Dur@.050 236-242 | Lift .521-.540 | LSA 112 | RPM Range 2500-6000.

This is going to be my first cam swap so what will I need to be able to measure the needed pushrod length?

http://www.compcams.com/catalog/278.html & 279 too

checking rod: http://www.compcams.com/catalog/277.html

I say 985 b/c at 1.800 installed height you'll probably be safer than with a 987 if you run 1.6's.

I'm going to be running the 1.6 rockers. What are the specs on the 985 springs?

For either the 985 or 987 springs...

740-16 Steel Retainers $49.99 (Thunderracing GP price)
611-16 Valve Locks $19.99 "
503-16 Valve Seals
4754 Shims $16.99 "

I'd kind of advise steering clear of Racenet unless you can go there and pick the stuff up in person. You should be able to get pretty much anything in Comp's catalog through Thunderracing (You know they have a GP going on until the 16th). It's a good idea to look up the part #s in Comp's catalog before you call, though. Lotsa luck finding anyone with the Comp "R" lifters in stock.

I'd run the 4771 locator and 614 +.050" keeper & shim it as necessary

that wont clear self-aligning stuff btw.. but eh.. you shouldn't run that crap anyway

I plan on ordering my stuff through the Thunder GP. But with everyone's advice on ordering the proper items for the cam...Im totally confused now.

Once again I plan on ordering the 236/242 on a 110lsa and plan on running the 7/16 Comp Cams Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers. I don't think I need the Ti retainers cuz they cost a left nut.

I'm lost in terms of what I need in order to run this cam on my car. The items I'm confused about are which valve springs, seats, retainers, locks and seals and shims are the correct ones to use.

I'm hoping that someone can explain this stuff to me in plain english......I'm totally lost now!

SkarodoM - I'm assuming the "locators" are the same as "seats" and "keepes" are the same as "valve locks."

onebadponcho - Thanks for the advice...I'll definately look up the part numebrs. I didn't know I even needed new valve seals for the cam swap.

How expensive is expensive? My titanium retainers were $179 or so.

here is an assembly sheet with part numbers listed that may help...

Each valve co thinks stock length is something different.. it seems confusing, Ferrea for instance says 4.910" is a stock length LT1 valve.. but if you ask for that, they dont make it, they only make a 4.960 "+.050" valve. Anyway.. whoever is doing your heads should know what to run... if you'd like to write down part numbers off brian's or something, then that might help if youre going for a similar setup. Either way.. if your head guy puts that 985 on at a 1.800" installed height, then you should have plenty of coil bind clearance with .555/.576 lift. I wouldn't usually go under .060", or .590" lift in that case. If youre wanting to get your parts in that GP, I think TR would probably get 985's for you instead of the usual 987's b/c they should cost the same from comp IIRC.

Kraaaaaest.. Ti is expensive when you can put something together thatll handle the ~7k we're limited to... and most guys dont turn that far anyway. Of course.. lower valvetrain mass is always a plus . Still.. $160+ vs. $50 for steel...

This is getting more complicated than I thought. I'm gathering parts right now...and waiting till I can get my heads done to throw everything together. I guess I better call Thunder and see what they reccomend.
